FINAL Updated NTV Preview Speculation? (Serious ideas only!)

Since we have a few weeks to wait, I thought it might be fun to bat around speculation on what the actual movie footage Preview for FINAL will be.

Serious speculation only please, I don't want to lock this thread due to spam.

I'm hoping the Preview will be 30 seconds like the updated 2.0 one was, not 15 seconds like the updated 3.0 counterpart. As for the content...awhile ago, TM suggested maybe it'd be one scene (similar to Asuka in space for 15 seconds) of 3.0 Rei listening to Shinji's Sdat. I could actually see that happening.

Though what I'm personally hoping for is semi-finalized (animation's a process) shots of Shinji, Asuka and Rei in the red desert storyboards from Peaceful Times. Or, it could be a proper (updated) version of the Eva 02 + 08 battle, similar to how 2.0's Preview was revised contents of the original Preview, updated with in-film footage. Of course, 3.0 was a different story (comparisons like other link).

I have a hunch they'll avoid showing any shots of Nerv/Seele (Kaworu returning, whatever) or Wille members (to leave things up in the air about their current plans and/or reactions to Shinji), but man oh man, if they end up showing a shot of post timeskip Kaji or the now adult classmates, I think everybody will flip.

I miss Kaji. If he shows up in the preview (or even just in the actual movie) I might need to be resuscitated.

I’d like to point out that we didn’t even see Rei pick up Shinji SDAT Player, so we can’t say conclusively that she has it to even listen to. That being said, I really doubt she just left it there. Anno knows how to play his audience, and not revealing Rei Q with the STAD Player in Q, possibly waiting until FINAL, was just genius.

I’d also like to point out that the Preview just after the marathon would only be the beginning. A while after the initial updated preview for Q aired, Khara simply opened the flood gates with other 30 second previews that has various versions of the “Peaceful Times” melody, both in tone and in lyrics.

I personally think that the preview at the end of Q (and maybe the upcoming one of the 5th) is the last time we’re gonna hear that “Peaceful times” melody in an Eva related item. There is no “Next Time” beyond FINAL, and it might be fitting just to have a completely different song play instead. It could either be the “Do You Love Me?” theme that Q finally introduced, or it could be just more classical music, since that musical aesthetic was also finally firmly established in Q for the first time in the NTE series. Either of these I can totally see Rei Q listening to, if Anno does indeed decide to reveal that she has it before the film’s release. (As cool as that trailer idea sounds, I doubt he’ll do it, given that Rei having the SDAT Player is one of the loose ends yet to be tied in the narrative.)

Basically, I’m just wanting to see more previews that further explore the musical thoughts that Q introduced to NTE.

It's kind've hard to be serious and speculate at the same time. But here goes.

I believe it's gonna be something, but I also believe it's also going to be barely anything. Like maybe ten seconds more of the more completed fight scene than we got for the Final trailer at the end of 3.0.

Regardless of what it is, when the Final product comes around (no pun intended). Do not expect what you saw in the next time trailer, like 3.0 expect to be trolled and have your expectations subverted, for better or for worse.

You can just call it A-4, since there's several variations on S2 Works. But yeah, I agree it probably will be the final (heh) time for the Next Time Preview music proper. On the subject of music, there's a few unused BGM from S2 Works I'd love to see implemented into Final, but most likely the OST will be new and original material with some musical callbacks (like 3.0 had).

I do like the fact that Rei picking up Shinji's SDAT was ambiguous, definitely smart move.

Thinking some more, I wouldn't mind if the proper FINAL preview did what the initial (later inaccurate) 3.0 Preview did by showing all the cast members but Shinji. Would be a good way to visually represent what Asuka and the others were trying to tell him in 3.0: the world just isn't about him and his problems. The entire world is at stake these days (even more so, with Wille now trying to prevent the Final Impact)...

I'm going to take the opportunity to give some thoughts on previews, and while I'm at it, early cam-rips.

We've all be "trolled" by at least one preview before. The previews given in 2.0 and 2.22 bore absolutely no resemblance to the final product of 3.0, and arguable did little other than generate confusion. I'd also argue that the existence of low quality camera-rips of 3.0 themselves lead to considerable confusion and misinformation right from the get go. This is similar to the misunderstands introduced by the low quality Manga entertainment release of EoE, and poor quality translations of early NGE material.

Perhaps this TV trailer will be more representative of the final product. Personally, I'm rather skeptical. We could be looking at another source of terrible confusion. I wonder if now might be a good time for another Rebuild subforum for final, to split off early assumptions from regular 1.0-3.0 analysis.

I am mostly expecting disposible footage in the September trailer edited at an extremely fast pace to get the blood pumping but not to give too much away. A few quick, 2D static shots of things we already know and some early 3D fighty-fighty.

That would be a wonderful troll. I am at least assuming in the post credits of FINAL, we will get a short scene of...whatever (Shinji sometime post-film, I'd think).
