The Tokyo International Film Festival is going to hold a special event dedicated to Anno. They'll be showing all of his works.

ALL of them?

From GunBuster to 3.0. Mostly animated with a few artsy live action films mixed in. Impressive Anmo.

Hopefully they'll have something about Final mixed in.

Lol. For a second I thought you meant the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ahhh.... wish I could go see this. There's easily going to be a lot of works there that are only viewable at the festival. Didn't Anno do a short for the Ghibli Museum that can only be viewed at the site?

Wouldn't be surprised if something Final based was shown. At the very least some production art or some of Anno's sketches for new concepts in the last Eva feature.

Kind of doubt it. If it's anything like 3.0, it'll be under tight wraps like 3.0 was until the opening day in Japan.

Hey, John Lasseter is going to be there. Will he see Evangelion? Will he become a fan? Will Disney license the show? Will it join the Disney family?

..I can dream.

Woah. People from Gainax were invited to what is arguably the most prestigious animation studio in the world, owned by inarguably the largest animation brand in the world. That's pretty cool. Then again, for all I know, Gainax is as big in Japan as Pixar is here.

I think Ghibli is generally considered to be the Pixar of Japan, if we're talking about the most renowned animation studios of the respective nations.

@Lasseter: I wouldn't doubt that he's seen at least one Gainax production, but for some reason I don't think Evangelion would be one of them. I wonder if he'll attend some part of the Anno retrospective.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

'Evangelion' creator Anno 'rediscovers' own works ahead of Tokyo film festival

Anno also brought up (might warrant a news post) that in addition to next Evangelion film he is also working on new work at the moment. It's unclear whether this is anime or live action movie at this point. In any case that got me hype as fuck.

Depending on when my tour ends on the 29th, will see if I can get back to Tokyo and catch the 14:00 screening of 2.0, although I'd have to get to the hotel, drop bag off, then jet down. Alternatively, stop by the theater. Haven't seen Nadia or Kare Kano yet.

I'm very much looking forward to see where Anno's off to after Eva (for the second time!)
