Pictures Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

Contrary to my expression, I'm actually quite enjoying myself:

I recognize that Mandarake!

That gate isn't terribly tall IIRC but obviously Blue is no shorty either

A "Chuck Norris" whiskey bar in Reykjavik. City is really nice, below freezing but definitely doesn't feel it.

Not really doing much of anything, drinking a lot, rented a car with a bunch of people and we're going to drive north/east tomorrow. Went to a couple of places that was recommended to my by friends, nightlife here is definitely picking up on the weekend. Place is really nice though.

The scenery there must be beautiful and "wintery". Iceland also has volcanoes, as well, some which are active!

Unfortunately, most of the country has a landscape that looks like the surface of the moon due to the lack of fertile topsoil at that latitude. And you make it sound as though the volcanoes are an afterthought! Eyjafjallajokyll and Katla would beg to differ with you, as would the hundreds of active volcanoes on Iceland.

From a couple of nights ago:

Image

That's dried fish, Hákarl (which is this stuff) inside a jar (for very good reason), then 3 different types of pickled herring. The dried fish was like the normal stuff you can buy in stores around here, maybe a little better tasting. The herring was really good, "Christmas" flavor, which tasted like there was some cinnamon in it, "curry" flavor, and "onion" flavor. The shark, that was some wild shit. It didn't taste bad, but it smelled really pungent, like cat piss, from dozens of cats, that's been sitting around for months. A couple of seconds after you eat it, you get this punch in the face of ammonia that comes out of your nose/mouth. I think I seriously caught a buzz off of it, at least temporarily enough to make me light headed.

Only one other person at the table was brave enough to try it.

^I've heard of this before, it seems disgusting, but I'd probably still try it if I had the opportunity, just out of curiosity.
