Yes, it's time again for a convention thread. I will be there Thursday evening through Sunday. This will be my first shot at cosplay, as the current incarnation of the Doctor. (No wool coat, though). Anyone else going?

That's not half bad. Where's your sonic screwdriver?

Hopefully I'll have enough time this weekend to knock something together.

You can probably jerry rig something together using one of those LED lights that you attach only a keychain. Or...

or...

But that one's a Tom Baker version.

Merged with pre-existing thread. I wasn't aware that there would be a 1.0 screening... good news for me, as I haven't seen it yet.

If only I had the monies AND transportation to get down to Anaheim! :sigh:

Oh well. Anybody who's going, be sure to take notes and pictures! (Especially if some important Gainax/Khara person is there.)

drinian: You look AWESOME as the Doctor! Great job. ^_^

Is this the one that's going to have the Shin Megami Tensei panel? That would probably be cool if I didn't know it was just going to be a whole load of people asking Persona 3 questions.

AGGGGGHHHHHH, I just spent all my monies at the horror expo at the Rosemount. And preferred it to Anime Expo...and always will.

I got a autograph from George Romero (on my copy of the Dawn of the Dead) and the Tall Man.
I won.

Well, Anime Expo was fun. I don't have time for a full writeup at the moment, but I will say that I got to see Evangelion 1.0, and heard Shokotan sing her cover of Cruel Angel's Thesis while cosplaying Rei (complete with a specially-recorded introduction for AX from Yuko Miyamura (Asuka)).

But I thought some folks here would be interested in seeing just what poor shape ADV is in at the moment. I stopped by their booth, sandwiched between Bandai and Funimation. Co-founder John Ledford was running the cash register (his back is to the camera) and co-founder/favorite EvaGeeks target for criticism Matt Greenfield can be seen fiddling with his cell phone there in the middle.

Most dealers had better-looking booths than ADV. They didn't even have a banner to show who they were -- maybe they were too embarrassed. I picked up a few volumes from them, and said a few nice things to Ledford, but it felt like charity money. I don't know how much longer they're going to last; clearly almost all of their employees are gone.

Sorry about the poor picture quality -- I learned last weekend that just because my N82 has a 5MP camera doesn't mean it'll take decent pictures.

As soon as they sold the rights to Gurren Lagann that was the sign they where having huge problems. HUGE problems.

At least they won't get the rights to Rebuild of Evangelion...witch means Spike might not voice Shinji. And someone good will do Gendou!
I won.

So, what did the people think of RoE 1.0?

So, Anime AX is tomorrow, and I'm super exited for it! The panels look awesome, the booths there are going to be amazing, and they happen to be doing MARATHON 1.0 AND 2.0 SHOWINGS. :fangasm: Anywho, I was wondering if any of you fine people will be attending, and if so, what you guys are looking forward to.

This could go in the Anime and Manga forum I think.

Never been but have been wanting to go for years. AX has been compared to FanimeCon which occurs earlier in May since a lot of people who go the latter also go to AX later. One of the comments I recall was for content AX is better, but the fan experience at Fanime is better, which is due to the the latter's smaller size, although it is growing. Looking forward to hearing your feedback. I predict that huke will get a lot of attention, with the other notable guests that I noticed being the VA for Kakashi and the chara designer for Shana and Haruhi Suzumiya. J-List, if you follow them, will be in the dealers' hall.

I noticed that ANN is sponsoring a contest for which the prize is a PacSet Tours trip to Japan. There are 2 ways to play, at con or by following their con reports, and AX starts things out. The other cons are Otakon, Japan Expo, and New York Comic Con.

Isn't the owner of J-list supposed to be some big douchebag who gets other dealers arrested by telling the cops that they sell child pornography

I'd rather not see this thread get derailed into about any shortcomings about J-List or what constitutes child pron. You can look on their website (not JBox since that has no adult stuff) and see if they aren't being hypocritical.

Hypocrisy is exactly what I am talking about but let's drop that
