Only took them 2 fucking decades to finally pull the trigger.
I wonder whether the basic story treatment Gainax and Anno came up with in the early 90's will still be used to some extent....though that may have fallen by the wayside when Anno decided to use his ideas for NGE instead. It also states that Yamaga's original screenplay was included on a CD-ROM realeased in '98. Has this been translated by anyone?
I would rather have had Anno direct this instead of Yamaga, seeing how it was gonna be his baby to begin with. Plus it'd be nice to see some action-oriented anime from him that isn't Evangelion once in a while y'know?

Bahh. What made Gunbuster great is the burning anime otaku spirit GAINAX exhibited as collective and especially by Toshio Okada and of course Anno's directing. Gunbuster is not Yamaga's baby by any stretch of imagination, even though he was one of the main writers on it.
As much should be obvious by the fact Yamaga was the SF guy in GAINAX who wanted to make his serious arty scifi flicks while Gunbuster is clearly more dominated in spirit and style by the anime otaku of GAINAX.
Plus like with 0080 he didn't direct Gunbuster (thank god) so it didn't enter my consideration.

He actually mentioned it as a possibility just some years ago. Anyway I really felt like they were going to do Blue Uru, I'm not the greatest fan of Honneamise nor I'm too optimist about this project but let's see what they can do.

It looks like a pilot film will be released next year. From what I've read of the article, I am assuming a pilot film is a short work meant to garner financial backing for a feature legnth production, or am I completely wrong on this one?
