The name sake for a character in Gunbuster is no longer with with us.

Toren Smith was a legend in bringing manga to the US, the younger fans don't know who he was but those of us who were there in the beginning were in awe of someone who worked as hard as he did. He is deserving of much praise.

Holy crap. He was involved in translating nearly every manga that I own. Shadow Star. Ghost in the Shell. Nausicaa. To name just a few. I used to read all of his opinion pieces. For so many years, he was the heart and brains of the North American manga industry.
