Wait, okay, so. The Twelfth Angel is the one inside Eva-06. The Thirteenth Angel is Kaworu. Cool. I get that. But Zeruel was the Tenth Angel. There's one missing, isn't there?

There's 14 years of difference. I'm honestly not surprised if we missed one.
Still, given what data we have access to there's not a lot we can go off.

I was kind of thinking the Wunder was Tunniel, and maybe the eleventh angel was the Key of Nebuchadnezzar. Kaji called it the lost number, didn't hr?

Given the implied link between Wunder and the "Adams' Vessel" Mark.09, I doubt Wunder has anything to do with the 11th Angel. It seems far more likely to me that the 11th Angel was captured a la Tunniel and became the basis for the weaponized, mass-produced Mk.4 series.

Maybe she's REALLY good at hiding it. Or Misato knows, and assumes Asuka will be useful to her at some point (maybe she's planning on using her as a trump card against Gendo?). Apparently Seele want all the Angels destroyed, so if Asuka is the Eleventh and she's still alive then their plans might be thwarted or altered in some way.

When was it decided that there are only 13 Angels?
I've only watched the camrip of 3.0 once, so maybe I missed that Kaworu, the 13th, was said to be the last?
I ask because, watching 1.11 last night, Gendo says something to the effect of, "If we're successful (at destroying the 6th Angel), there are still eight left."
Wouldn't that make it 14?

When the movies were being produced? Kaworu was originally the 1st Angel until he got cast down to the status of being the 13th. Either way,the 11th Angel is missing and we might not even find out what exactly happened to it until Final. And that's pretty iffy as is. Unless of course they miscounted which is possible I suppose.

Well mari states, something akin to "13th angel ?? even if there are suposed to be only 12 ?"
And gendo actually says, angels we must DEFEAT, he didnt defeat lilith or adam (but kaworu as 13), so by going with that line we still have one angel missing to defeat, it must be Asuka.

Seriously, though, am I alone in finding that the separation of the concepts of angel and not-angel is much less clear in Rebuild than in the series? Not least with things like the Nemesis series and the Wunder being around. For me this makes it much harder to understand the significance of the angels at all.
