[SPOILERS] Filling the gap

I hope this thread is ok to minimize the mess and since we had no real thread about the 3.0 preview and the actual movie I thought we could try to fill the gaps between 2.22 and 3.0. Maybe expand it with everything from else from the trailer?

Evangelion 01
At the end of 2.22 Shinji starts Third Impact, but gets interrupted by Kaworu... (do we know why by now?)
Image

For a (little?) while Eva 01 is kinda frozen with Shinji and Rei 02 in it
Image

But on the long run, Eva 01 has been exiled to space and concealed in a tesseract... (were those little things that Asuka fights in 3.0 made by Seele as a defense mechanism?)
Image

Evangelion Mark .06
At the end Eva 06 comes down to earth...
Image

and in the preview, we can see it descending down to Terminal Dogma, where it supposedly rests until 3.0. (any idea why?)
Image

Founding of Wille
In the preview we could see that the Third Impact witnesses were visited (by whom?). Could this have resulted in the founding of Wille?

In the trailer the narration is something along the lines of "NERV personnel confined." I think this refers to Shinji being held on the Wille boat, before new Rei in Mark 09 comes to break him out.

The preview was, I thought, pretty clearly implying that the Nerv staff were going to be detained by the government / United Nations for their involvement in Near Third Impact. Way back when 2.0 came out, folks picked up on the EoE parallels pretty quickly.

I don't see much point in trying to map what transpires in Eva 3.0 onto the original preview. Square peg, meet round hole. Bits and pieces of the preview still work as feasible interim storyline, however.

So, Misato and buddies get detained on an aircraft carrier... 14 years later, Misato had a fleet of them at her command. IS THERE A CONNECTION?

That would be a more tenuous one. Shinji is A) NERV personnel B) confined on a boat C) who was at the center of third impact.

The point of mapping from the old preview to the new movie is that it is fun to deconstruct where an idea might have come from and to see how it morphs IMO. Then it will be interesting to compare to what the staff later have to say about it in the CRC book.

Well they could do like Gundam does, and release a side manga.
I'm not sure what I feel about Eva anymore, but I'm pretty sure I don't actually enjoy the series anymore.

Why is the ocean blue in that shot?

I just looked it again at the post 2.22 trailer for 3.0, and sure enough.. you see helicopters descending to an aircraft carrier sitting in blue water.

Uhh yeah, it's better if everyone just accepts the previews are haphazardly slapped together shit that at best is unintentionally misleading and at worst actively trolltastic.

Actually, it would be cool if they included those scenes in 3.33
SO THERE I WAS BEING KUBO, WHEN THE EDITORS CAME IN AND WERE LIKE "YOU NEED TO DO MORE THAN PANELS OF WHITE PILLARS AND BLACKGROUNDS!" AND I WAS LIKE "FUCK YOU, I'M KUBO!" SO THEY WERE LIKE "WELL HOW ABOUT SOMEBODY DYING?" AND I WAS LIKE "FUCK YOU, I'M KUBO!" AND I MADE LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY. I LOVE MY LIFE.

From what we've heard so far, it sounds like the ocean did not turn blue in 3.0.. I wonder how they can possibly shoehorn that scene in. :D

(A nice find by the way, I didn't realize it wasn't red!)

*edit*
Oopsie, sorry, didn't realize there was a thread about it. Thank you Ornett. Going back to my cave now..

Or it could be my theory stated in the new Characters thread that there will be a TV series detailing the events and new characters in the 14 year gap.

Maybe something more like Nadia (not as silly (not an insult, I love Nadia)), but more personal stories of the characters on smaller adventures in the strange land of Eva.

Discussion about that is in this (no spoiler) thread: http://forum.evageeks.org/thread/11906/Water-in-Eva-30/

Like it's been mentioned in that thread, it could either just be a blooper or they could have been on fresh water (lake or river).

It would have to be a bigass lake to accomodate a carrier group.

Well, you see earth from the sunny side in this pic. that's why it's blue. You just don't see the sea at all, you just see the atmosphere.

[SPOILERS] Another Q Theory

  •
  •
  • Quote

Postby Nuclear Lunchbox » Wed Jan 16, 2013 7:20 pm

So, as of late I've been puzzling over what happened during the 14 years that Shinji was out. Q was so different from the rest of the rebuild movies as to be nearly incomprehensible at first, and I think it has a lot to do with that 14 year skip. Piecing together everything that I know, think I know, or have theorized about Q, I have created a theory of what I think happened during those 14 years. This is completely from my own head. However, it isn't a fanfiction. I'm only listing plot points, although I could probably do something with this if I wanted.

Kaworu came down from the moon, in control of the Mark.06. Impaling Unit-01 in its evolved form, it descended through the hole in the geofront and continued down the Main Shaft. Gendo and Fuyutsuki pursued him. Once the unit was in terminal dogma, Gendo and Fuyutsuki somehow terminated the unit and left it in Dogma. Gendo then proceeded to seal off Level-EEE, with Kaworu and the Mark.06 still inside.

Back on the surface, Eva-01 was immediately placed in restraints and imprisoned in a cage. The pilot log was extracted to determine evens that transpired. Before the data was looked at by staff, Gendo tampered with the data to make it appear that Shinji had intentions of initiating Third Impact. Disgusted with his actions, Misato plans the unit's imprisonment in a Tesseract. Evangelion Unit-01 is launched into outer space.

Time passes, with everybody at NERV attempting to repair the damage done to the world. Asuka is removed from the containment chamber, and fitted with an eyepatch to cover the mangled eye within. Unit-02 is rechristened Unit-02' and is repaired. Mari receives her own Eva unit. However, Misato and Kaji one day stumble upon the information pertaining to the true nature of the Evangelions. Realizing Gendo's true plans, Misato and those who support her discreetly leave Nerv HQ and change their appearances to avoid recognition. Construction of the Wunder AAA as a base of operations begins at Acheron, as well as systems to monitor Nerv. During construction, however, it is discovered that an immense source of power will be required. Still hating Shinji, Misato realizes that the only thing that would have enough power to run the Wunder is Eva-01. Plans are formulated to retrieve the unit. However, the Nemesis Series begin their attacks. The 12th angel surfaces and destroys Acheron, but Misato and Acheron's naval forces manage to hold it off and escape. The angel does not pursue.

While all of this happened, Gendo has been constructing the Nemesis Series in order for Seele to trust him and give him control over the scenario. He constructs the Mark.09 and Eva-13, placing both of them in containment. He also activates a third Rei clone.

I'd be hard pressed to explain anything else, but I'll update if I do.

I'm pretty sure that Mark.06 didn't enter Dogma right away- there is still the epic, completely unseen, implied battle with Lilith that occurred somewhere in the middle of it all. I do think that Misato found out some info on the Evas or Second Impact (similar to how she hacked into Nerv during EoE) and left Nerv because of it. Asuka's eyepatch may not just be covering a disfigured eye, but that's still matter of speculation. I do think Misato knew he wanted to save Rei, though, since Asuka and Misato aren't really surprised to hear him talking about wanting save Rei when they meet again in 3.0.

I think Eva-02 wasn't repaired by Nerv, though, considering how crudely it's patched up. Nerv's method of repair seems to involve getting the Evas to regenerate and heal any biological components, healing even grievous injuries, but Eva-02 has not been repaired this way and instead has been shoddily patched up with cybernetics. So I'm inclined to believe that they had to take it before Nerv had fully repaired it, then fixed it up as best they could.

I have something else creepy to add; the complete lack of Nerv staff could be because Gendo made them into the Nemesis Series.

But back to the point, now. Your ideas have merit; it's entirely possible that Misato took Unit-02 with her. Of course, I evidently still need to account for the massive underground battle. You caught me there. :shinji_blush: Of course, why would the Mark.06 attack Lilith? Unless it was Gendo...

Yeah, I'm thinking that as well. Or he could be planning to use them for the green MP Evas in Final. There definitely aren't many Nerv staff in Wille; after all at one point they're described as :

00:12:10 {Worker} We are something of a mixed group with civilians amongst us, after all.

So it seems not many Nerv staff went with Misato, although I'm not sure why the wouldn't. Possibly they had been forcibly detained or had already been placed in the Nemesis Series by then. Some of them may also have been turned into Failures of Infinty.

View Original PostNuclear Lunchbox wrote:Of course, why would the Mark.06 attack Lilith? Unless it was Gendo...

It seems that Gendo and Seele don't want Lilith awakening (at least not in the way that occurred during the timeskip). But for some reason Lilith managed to reach such an advanced awakening stage that there was no recourse but to kill her.

kaworu mentions mark 6 was exploited by gendo in autonomous mode, dummy system perhaps, so maybe the missing evas didnt need a pilot after all.

Just to add fuel to the fire:
They're a kind of zombies, produced by the awakening of Lilith, their name may be interpreted as the: "losers of the infinite game of evolution". They carve to merge with Lilith (as the stretched hands of FOIs near the Ayanami-shaped head suggest), because awakened Lilith should be some sort of a egg-cell (as the pattern on her skin suggests), and the wall of the dogma is its shell, which hardens after the fertilization. The fertilization produces some embryo-shaped thing of unknown purpose. We discuss this in the Impact mechanics thread.
A short guide to NGE

- Simpler explanations are, other things being equal, generally better than more complex ones. - Occam's razor
- Since we can never know anything for sure, it is simply not worth searching for certainty; but it is well worth searching for truth; and we do this chiefly by searching for mistakes, so that we have to correct them. - Karl Popper
