The collar's not the reason for Shinji's zero synch rating, it's meant to kill him if he enters God Mode. It doesn't actually affect a person's ability to synch with an Eva.

It's highly implied to have a synch-killing function. Maybe Kaworu can get around it, but that's because he's Kaworu.

Either way, I think the collar is not given as the reason he cannot synch with Eva 01. It seems their analysis showed that his synch ratio has dropped to Zero.

Eh, I could be wrong. Things just seem a bit fishy. Shinji could synch before the collar, and, after Kaworu takes it off, he's back to piloting Evas again. (Haven't seen the movie, so I don't know if this "analysis" took place before the collar was put on.)

There was a screen that described the DSS Collar, I can't remember what the acronym stood for, but I remember the "D" was an unusual word. Right afterwards (or was it right before?), they showed a sync display and some numbers were flying by before it concluded the sync rate was 0%. I don't know if anything was said specifically or not, but I just assumed it was connected.

Sync thing seems interesting......I have question about the collar.

1. If I understand correctly Kaworu puts on the collar instead of Shinji? Is it just easy to take on/off? Kinda weird since I would assume Will-E would have made the collar not removable so Shinji can't take off the collar.

2. Does collar have any sort of tracking/identifying system? From what I read Misato sees Angel sign show up before she triggers?

3. And do we actually see Misato pulling the trigger when the collar explodes?

Odds are Eva-01 wouldn't be too phased by the loss of her head. Which makes me wonder what the hell I was thinking when I made my previous post in this thread.

Killing things by decapitation seems to be a common theme in EoTV. Of note are Unit-02's death, Kaworu's death, Kyoko's death, the death of Asuka's doll, and Gendo's induction. The DSS appears to be simply playing off of this general theme.

(And Eva-02 was only decapitated in episode 19. Didn't die; she got better.)

Well, Eva-01 being what she is, they probably don't have enough explosives to penetrate her ATF and god-knows-how-many layers of armor. At least not without blowing up the Wunder's power source and leaving them all falling to their doom. Shinji is vulnerable and human, so it makes more sense to put a DSS choker on him.

Are there any pics of the choker itself, or info on how it explodes? I can't picture such a thin choker holding enough punch to make Kaworu go splat completely.

On a more serious note Wille doesn't want to blow up Unit-01. They need it to power Wunder. That's what they went into space for. Shinji is just an unfortunate byproduct to them.

Ahh, Borderlands 2. Getting back on topic, do we have any clues as to how the collar is detonated? I've heard rumours of a trigger Misato presses, some sort of Pattern Blue detection system and such, but no actual evidence from the film to support what exactly causes the collar to go kabloom.

A missile at nosetip couldn't make a scratch on Eva 02........... And probably 01 could regrow her head in her awakened state (like 09)
