Q Movie reactions (NO SPOILER)

Postby Sik » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:25 pm

Hello I made this post so people who went to the movies can share with us (the ones not living in Japan :P) about the experiences they might have.

Attention: I dont intend you to write about the movie itself, just wanna know how full the theater was, how excited the people surely was, if you camped in advance, anecdotes, extrange stuff, presentations, etc.

Yeah Im also looking forward to hear from our fellow evageeks of their impressions and the overall audience impression of the film. From what I read in the spoiler section, I think lots of minds will be blown that night [might get messy]

Ornette will be going to see the movie soon. I'll be waiting on his spoilerless review!

I wonder if anyone cosplayed to the first screening like they would do in the US.

so it's roughly 12:45 pm over there. How long until the first screenings begin, and confirmations of these spoilers start rolling?

Japan is 14 hours ahead of EST, where I live. The first screenings happened 13 hours ago.

Very cool. Just what I was hoping to hear. I look forward to seeing this "anal devastation" on the screen for myself (boy, if I had nickel...)

I'll be seeing it on Tuesday, so I'll be sure to write my impressions here.

I've lurked this forum for years, but I figured now's as good a time as any to actually join. よろしくおねがいします!

i loved it

Postby michaelovan » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:58 am

from the first frame, the film went in a completely unexpected direction. it had a different vibe to it than anything eva-related that has come before - and i'm still processing that change. the themes are all there. the characters are true to the characters. but the locations, the timeframe, the music... there were some surprises, to say the least.

before 3.0, there's a short film from hideaki anno and studio ghibli. it's pretty awesome.

just to be clear i loved the film. i can't wait to see it again.

oh yes, this was my first post. long time voyeur, first time poster. i was so excited after the film that i had to start an account just so i could talk about it.

Knew it. No matter how many people bring this up I guess overreacting to cosmetics of storyline will always steal the thunder and give cause to unfound grievances.

There were a few gasps during the showing I attended, but they gave way to some clapping when the film was over. In Japan, clapping at a theater? It happened. Awesome.

Probably there were some Americans in the theatre, they started clapping and the Japanese followed in suit. It's the only possible explanation.

I'd generally agree but we're talking about special midnight premiere of anime film with the most hardcore fans at it. Japanese generally never clap (whether they like the film or not) or anything but IIRC the premieres for Sayonara no Tsubasa did get strong applauses on early showings so maybe it's possible anime films may sometimes form exception to rule.

Though the gaijin explanation is more beliavable IMO

LOL, actually, I was the sole American, or at least white person, at the 8:45PM show. It was the Japanese clapping, I promise! (The other Japanese people around me just started excitedly asking each other, "What the hell did I just watch?")

We're gonna blame us Americlaps for clapping in Japan?

That's going too far.

It's actually sensible thing to do because in 99% of cases Japanese don't clap.

Hell, I bet Japanese who started clapping had been transfer students in USA picked the bad habit from there!

LOL, that's why I'm blaming the Japanese in this case. Doesn't anyone else feel slightly uncomfortable when an audience claps at a blank screen?
