I think this version would do better as an insert song played over a radio during the movie or something like that.

I listened to the audio rip and I heard (probably) most of the tracks
Some really good stuff in there. Not as many big epic pieces, and the mood's really somber this time round, but there are still a couple of end-of-the-world-apocalyptic battle scores that I really really like. Overall, 2.0's soundtrack was probably more memorable (as in i'll have way more tracks i'll listen to on a consistent basis), but I'm mega keen to listen to these properly. Evangelion battle music is some of my favorite music of all.

...
My disc got delivered a day early!
Wow. it's pretty glorious. 2 discs, 34 tracks.
I just finished listening to it. The music itself, as mentioned above, is much more somber than the previous installments.
You could almost tell from the music alone that it will be a tragic movie.
This time the soundtrack is very Orchestra + Choir- heavy and has an even more of a classical feel to it than 2.0. There weren't as many hummable themes in there as 2.0 did.
There are lots (LOTS) of piano tracks. Some for solo piano, some for 2 pianos. Almost like Shiro Sagisu suddenly got an addiction to writing piano duets (or wants to hammer home ShinjixKaworu).
Tracks are either epic or melancholic... there are no happy tracks like 1.0 and 2.0 did.
On a whole, it's a much more classical collection than 1.0 and 2.0. I feel like Sagisu Shiro took a bit of departure from his previous writing style and leaned a little more towards Beethoven in this soundtrack.
I really like it. It gives very (VERY) little happy feelings off, which is consistent with everything I've seen and read about the movie itself.
Also in the little album booklet, there is an interview with Sagisu Shiro. Also for Piano enthusiasts, the piano score for Quatre Mains is included too!

^ Yeah. 2.0 had so many catchy tunes that they were able to techno mix the music and make a music rhythm game (Evangelion 3nd Impact for PSP) from it.
3.0.... I don't think it's possible even if they TRIED.
On another note.
I just read Shiro Sagisu's introduction in the booklet.
Some interesting points:
-Recordings done in London and Paris
-He has an apartment on 9 Beethoven Street in Paris... The madam at the registration office apparently laughed at him a little.
-Some tracks, like "Peaceful Times" were recorded in 2009, right after EVA 2.0
-and some tracks were still being recorded 2 weeks before the movie premiere (lol)

Jeez. I got a completely different vibe from Disc 1 of the OST. The first few songs like "Out of the Dark" and "It will mean Victory" on Disc one are EPIC choir pieces with lots of drums and electric guitar. Most of the sombre pieces are on the Disc 2 with mostly piano pieces. If you liked 2.0's soundtrack, then you'll surely find things that you'll like on this one. Dont let the above comments fool you. They are right, there are a lot of sombre pieces, but there is more than enough epic battle tracks.
Edit: Also, has anyone found Bande-annonce (garçons), which is track 13 on the second disk? I've been looking for it everywhere but to no avail

Completely right!
The battle music tracks are epic! Just comparatively speaking, they are darker than before and less upbeat.
I really LOVE 'Gods Message" - inspired from Nadia.
