[Anime] Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: Crystal

Seriously thinking about it since Act 12, but I'm dropping Crystal as well. I'm just heartbroken that 2 years of waiting for FINALLY a manga-based-anime, and this was the result. Really thinking that tumblr post was right, that some big unknowns went behind the scenes at Toei, but we'll never know for sure.

For me, this isn't just a case of "We'll always have the 90's anime/manga/PGSM/Sera Myu" because I seriously hoped Crystal would give us something we haven't properly had before: A manga-version of the story but certain elements fleshed out or trimmed down as needed. But nope. Rush job and it really shows in these crucial episodes.

Watching Acts 12 and 13 (I only watched them each once, usually with anything Sailor Moon related I rewatch it whenever the mood strikes me) really left me feeling dejected, something I've never felt after watching the show. Especially considering I rarely watch currently airing anime.

Feel free to PM me if things actually get better during Black Moon arc, though. Maybe I'll pick it back up once that arc closes.

I'm also disappointed how empty the rest of the Scouts were. And the Generals survived this long only to be a plot device as a stones to one time accidently block the sword cut from their boss' lover and later state the obvious and disappear...

Scouts on other hand, have no life outside of being batteries for the princess of fossilized piece of rock, despite being cosmic royality in their own right. Also it seems it's totally ok, that Usagi gets her boyfrend across the time and their love interests are plot killed off almost insultingly because - "forced drama"... Drama that gets shrugged off in about minute and a half and not just in a way that shows them moving over the pain of loss, but literally "We don't have time to be sorry, we have to serve as useless support for Main Character" -___-

That's insulting to pretty much every character including Usagi who will get the fan backlash for not letting others shine.

Maybe Crystal isn't a clever ploy to get people to re-buy the original anime, but to buy the ~$20 per volume Perfect Edition manga instead? :tongue:

I can't stop feeling disappointed. Crystal was supposed to be amazing, and instead we got a shit sandwich.

Here's hoping for the Black Moon arc to be good!

But the Generals are still dead. Meh it seems only MC can have her lover reincarnated, brainwashed into evil and still returned to her. All her friends are there just to power her up for boss battles and motivate with their sacrifice. Kind of like Krillin in DBZ. They don't need to have their boyfriends back cause they are perfectly happy as plot devices...
At least Killin got a cool wife for all the shit he endures in the series...

Well obligatory bitterness for the current episode has been spilled. Moving on.

Well, after the sheer disappointment of the last three episodes, I've given up watching this series. It gets rid of the need to be bitter. :tongue:

It was definitely better than the last two, but it doesn't change everything that was wrong with the last two, unfortunately. That part stains the entire arc. The animation was still pretty horrendous too. I'm rather disappointed that we had such great episodes like 5 and 9, and fell apart, cut out, and changed things for the worse in the last two episodes. Hopefully Black Moon Arc will be better and they'll just stick to the source material.

So I'm guessing from what I read here that the show didn't fix those egregious character, aesthetic & narrative problems those first two episodes had? I was thinking of trying to play catch up sometime but if it never gets any better than sloppy I think I'll just do something else.

Just rewatch the original anime. Remind yourself why you liked the franchise to begin with.

Even watch the live action musicals if you must. At least those allows themselves to have fun.

Reading the Naoko's manga (at least Infinity arc if you're short on time for 12 Volumes of main story) is good too, to familiarize yourself with the source material.

I just really hope Toei won't add unnecessary changes to Black Moon arc (and gulp, onwards). It's not putting the source material in a flattering light, though for sure the manga lacked something the 90's anime had, and vice versa. That's why I'm so bummed Crystal's not a definitive version of the series.

Manga fleshed some of the characters while old animation fleshed the others (for example Ail and Ann from anime only filler were pretty fun). Crystal, while visually and combat impressive, fail to develop any character properly and waste tons of potential for characters growth. It's just... Painful to watch.

Crystal should have put the best of both iterations and thus be a charming love letter to the franchise. But somehow they managed to take the weaknesses of both, slam them together, turn them up to 11 and add some shitty 3D.

It's unbelievable. I'll never say bad things about NTE again.

I just hope, they don't kill the Digimon sequel too... But it looks like they've got this.

Digimon sequel? Didn't heard of it. On other hand, for me Digimon ended on Tamers, that was the Evangelion of Digimon series...

seriously though, its a sequel? why do i find myself caring little? mainly be taiora will never be canon now, also we have already seen what happens after 02 and if they make another villain up they would somehow have to upstage the last, we have had a villain strong enough to erase the main characters from existence and another villain strong enough to break the rules of dimensional space.
and whatever new villain we get somehow has to be stronger than both of them and an excuse as to why we cant just call omnimon to wreck his face...........yeah no.
Besides no digimon villain will ever be as good as the d-reaper, like ever.
