In any case I wasn't making a personal statement or confession there at all. I was just in my own way noting the amusing fact about Eva being probably the all time champion when it comes to amount of doujinshi inspired by anime series..and in Eva's case I'd say about 80% are explicit through the years

I wouldn't be actually surprised, what with your worshipping of Ranka; but then again, you probably view her character as the purest symbol to have ever appeared.

Hum, I would say that Naruto and Bleach steal the damn porn cake when it comes to doujinshis. Eva is probably on the top-10 but still has a long way of catching up to the golden hentai garden.

Edit: A search on a popular doujin site reveals 674 Naruto tagged uploads, 604 Bleach tagged uploads, and.......


1,546 Evangelion tagged uploads.


Now, there's room for multi uploads and mistags/names, but that's for all three. I'd say Eva's more likely to get multiple uploads, but that won't account for a near 1000 difference.

I doubt that's the case. What actually makes it to the internet is not even a majority (and for some reason all non-porn material is even less likely to make it here to my frustration) and the amount of doujinshi series gets does not absolutely correlate with its populairty or even style. Panty and Stocking didn't sell all that much but oh boy didn't it get a lot doujinshi (unsurprisingly mostly 18+)... on the other hand have fun searching for Ghibli or Doraemon doujinshi.

As popular shounen series Naruto, Bleach and the king One Piece do get a lot doujins of all kinds but even then such battle shonen manga aren't really those titles that inspire most doujins. Touhou is pretty much nothing but and is the undisputable tyrant of doujin activities these days. There's Touhou and then there's rest - but Touhou is nowhere as mainstream or well known in general as Naruto is.

In any case Naruto and Bleach still don't quite compete with Eva and its 16 years long history as far as I can tell. Based vaguely on what I remember Eva's biggest competitor in this field was probably Sailor Moon but that was years ago. It hasn't had the longevity of Eva in this respect, especially not now with Rebuilds and all

So yeah, I really don't see danger posed by Shounen Jump titles here. Partly simply because Eva has been around longer and GAINAX series are...GAINAX series. They used to measure Gunbuster's popularity by how much doujins it got back in the day after all

This is the best single sentence description of Eva I have read. Otherwise, Eva is just too complex to describe in one sentence. I find that it usally thakes hundreds of sentences just to describe the basic plot points and concepts. The idea of Eva as a whole is simply vast.
