It looks like his work after Fantasma simply went unnoticed. I checked some of the stuff he did after Fantasma and it was not bad at all. In fact I found one or two of those albums more replayable than Fantasma because they weren't such mindfucks in comparison to Fantasma's genre rape and lack of unity.

The more important part is that his previous soundtrack outing (for very similar Masamune show no less thus making likelihood of osts being very similar high) was boring as hell

edit: Kamiyama confirmed he's not involved

taht feel when no third season (probably ever) ;___;

I thought Kamiyama was still riding the waves of that Cyborg 009 film. He loves that shit, but it doesn't seem to have done all that well in theatres.

Maybe he's run out of ideas. ;___;

But yeah, I dunno. This could be really good, or this could be really, really bad. I'm kind of leaning toward the latter. Has it been confirmed yet that Yukiko Horiguchi is involved?

I don't feel too bad or surprised about that given it was CGPD film.

I could've sworn last year or so Kamiyama expressed interest in making more GitS eventually which makes this even more of a bummer.

lol

Well it's GitS so it probably will be good but with Mardock Hack guy on board... chances of being SAC level are slim.

Shame.....I feel this could be a piece of shit. We heard rumors back in 2012 that Production IG would be working on a new GITS, but never did I consider the possibility of it being a reboot with a totally different writer, director, and composer. True when you think about it, theres only so much more a story-follow-up that you can do after Solid State.

I certainly don't dig the new Mardock Scramble like design for Motoko. She looks terrible. I'm just as cynical as all you guys here. This will be a piece of crap compared to GITS Kamiyama. I think I'll just watch more of Psycho Pass instead. That anime seems like a worthy successor over GITS.

This doesn't look like it will even be as entertainingly bad as the later iterations of the manga (yeah, the one with the deleted gang-rape scene).

Just when I thought the character designs for Shiki were unfitting. But it seems they want to go for bling bling to attract bling bling viewers.

At least we have Cornelius as a composer... I hope he will squeeze out some good stuff.

For a blink of a second I thought that this would be Watanabe's new series he's working on. THAT would be interesting...

When I look at Kusanagi... I've got the feeling... But nah... they wouldn't... would they?

Could it be in pseudo-3D? A bit like Appleseed? I won't forgive that.

It's kind of amusing to watch you guys bitch so much about something that hasn't even gotten so much as a PV yet.

There's a lot that could be done with it, given how loosely 2nd Gig played to the manga (and SAC, for that matter). The GitS adaptations are pretty much nothing like the manga outside of sharing names, some technology, and a plot elements. The characters, tone, and setting were liberally reinterpreted for both Oshii's films and Kamiyama's series. And as far as the plot elements and the characters went, SAC & 2nd Gig ran pretty far between 'liberal reinterpretation' of source material and outright making stuff up because it fit the vision. 3rd Gig would likely be/have been more of the same, and that's what most of us wanted.

That said, I don't see much of a problem with reinterpreting the stories again. Oshii did the first adaptation, and it was divergent from the manga in ways that nobody could have predicted at the time. Kamiyama ran with the ideas of Oshii's film and the manga in a different direction, getting it more action-packed and political. Where it's going now is anyone's guess, although it's pretty interesting to see that the new Kusanagi design looks an awful lot like Oshii's Motoko.

Kise Kazuchika's been doing work for IG for quite awhile now. He doesn't have any directorial credits to speak of, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing; he's been an animation director on a number of major works, not the least of them being previous GitS projects. The only weak link I see here is Tow Ubukata's involvement with the screenplay, but that might not even be such a bad thing, either.

 It's not like Masamune could write very well anyway.

At the very least there's a new addition to the "Reasons not to kill yourself in 2013" chart, as if it wasn't big enough already. Anyone who commits suicide this year is making a huge mistake! If the emphasis and exclamation mark don't give it away, I'm joking around.

Also, I suppose it's time I finally got around to watching GITS, huh?

Maybe that's why he pretty much does nothing but draw nowadays, maybe it consumes less brainpower for him and it brings in the yen.

Although I still wish he would draw straight scenes with his women other than with anthropomorphic animals, supernatural forces, and machines, which is probably a topic for a separate Shirow artwork thread. :sweatdrop:

Speaking of which it looks like a separate all encompassing GiTS thread can be created since such a thread doesn't exist yet.

Appleseed was 3D. What the hell would pseudo-3D even be?

Honestly, I'm mostly just butthurt about implication of KEKEKEKEKE NO 3RD GIG FOR YOU KEKEKEKE

Not that this looks too promising on its own, mind you

I meant that ugly shading they use, when they want 3D to look like 2D... I have no problem with CGI but don't use it on my characters! :/

Bagheera's take on GitS:

Manga: So much "meh". I forgive it everything since it gave us SAC (eventually), and there are some good ideas in there, but meeeeeeeh.
Movie: Pretty but stupid.
Innocence: Just stupid.
SAC: Brilliant police procedural with the mother of all awesome endings. Begin here, stop here, move on.
2nd Gig: Drops the procedural for politics, and suffers terribly as a result.
SSS: I don't even remember it, honestly. This and 2nd Gig are useful as a vehicle for Yoko Kanno awesomeness (Player and Torkia in particular), but apart from that I just don't care.
This new shit: Misato as Kusanagi? Why? Seriously, there's nothing they can do with the whole mess at this point that hasn't been done better elsewhere (probably in SAC if it was anything worth a damn). And why even bother if they can't even manage the pretty?

Flame on bitches, but you know I'm right.

I hate myself. But maybe I can learn to love myself. Maybe it's okay for me to be here! That's right! I'm me, nothing more, nothing less! I'm me. I want to be me! I want to be here! And it's okay for me to be here! -- Shinji Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion
