NGE Sexual Metaphor

After going through most of the topics here. I noticed something: that the whole NGE is a metaphor on sexual intercourse- over & over again... It all boils down to:

1) EVAs = Penis

2) Breaking of AT Field = Penetration

3) Angel's Core = Clitoris

4) Explosion after Angel is defeated = Orgasm

This is repeated every time an EVA is 'fighting/killing' an angel.....

In other works of fiction, it may not exist, but given the abundance of sexual imagery in Eva, it's highly likely there could be some phallic symbols yet to be observed. This doesn't necessarily make the OP right, but I wouldn't throw it away as easily as the Star Wars metaphor.

The core IS very clearly shown to = a clit in EoE, and piercing it sure as hell makes the MP Evas (And possibly Unit 01) orgasm. The AT Field protects "The sacred part of me that none may enter" as Kaworu put it, which can totally have sexual as well as emotional connotations. So I think it has some credibility considering all the sexual imagery.

So, to take the Star Wars counter-point:

1) X-Wings = Penis.

X-wings never had sexual or personal empowerment connotations.

2) Getting into the trench = Penetration

The trenches never represented a sacred, personal place of a living being.

3) Exhaust vent = Clitoris

Poking an exhaust vent never made anyone orgasm in the Star Wars universe.

4) Death star exploding = Orgasm

I'm not so sure if explosion = orgasm in Eva, (though it'd make sense following this logic)
so I'll just leave this one be.

According to Anno ripping the AT Field was supposed to have image of "violation" - but while this is easy to see as sexual it doesn't look like it was strictly intended as such

though it would be pretty bloody hilarious if that was the case. All Angel fights would just turn into rapefests for thematic reasons better left unasked

So, what does it mean when Asuka uses the AT Field in EoE as offense rather than defense?

Looking at all the other sexual references inside Evangelion, it isn't hard to lump this analogy in among the rest of them. But at the same time, the same thing can be said about a sword penetrating the armor of a medieval soldier and and piercing his heart, causing intense screaming and moaning by the soldier being stabbed. Things like penetration and consequences are just a part of life in general, including all things from sex to murder.

So, I don't know if this is specifically a sex reference. There are just some forms of penetration that lead to orgasmic climax, and others that result in death, and others that just result in someone finally opening up emotionally to someone else. Evangelion explores all these forms of penetration.

Glad I can be of help! :) But don't be too surprised if I start doing the same thing... whenever I get around to feeling comfortable directing a sexual scene.

Also, I've always seen the whole "penetrate the AT Field" thing more analogous to the whole medieval soldier thing. Especially when Asuka uses it offensive in EoE. It's like a soldier bashing people in the face with the edge of her shield! It's awesome!

To be honest, I really don't think all this "penetration" stuff I mentioned was psychological or philosophical. "Penetration" (characters interacting and getting close to one another with various consequences) is just something very basic that's required for any form of good story-telling and decent character progression. That, and "penetration" seems to be the appropriately applicable word for the thread. :)
