Seriously, what was there to like about There Will Be Blood? I don't get it. I call upon the collective filmnerd posse to explain this bullshit. Or why the Social Network was any good, while you're at it. Same problem, really... decent acting but lame plot, I couldn't give less of a shit about the characters, music/sound was often annoying, etc.

Oh, and on-topic I watched The Last Legion, a rather forgettable "let's make mythology real" type of movie that's been so popular lately. Had Ben Kingsly as the obvious Merlin guy though, so it wasn't a total loss.

The acting is what carries There Will Be Blood. The one scene that always stands out to me acting wise is
SPOILER: Show
the beach scene with Daniel Plainview and the guy pretending to be his brother. The guy says something that gives away he isn't Daniel's brother, and then there is like a 30 second camera hang on Daniel Day-Lewis in which you can literally see and feel his character making the connections in his head and ultimately decide to kill the stranger. It's an amazing bit of acting that epitomizes the entire film.

Most people who like the film love the music as well.

I still think that line is funny. I wonder if Game of Thrones is going to throw in any such in-jokes.

My sister wanted to see LOTR again, so I'm watching through Fellowship and Two Towers so far.

The Fighter. It was good. I am sorely disappointed by the lack of using Christina Aguilera's song "Fighter" during a training montage.

CABLE BITCHES.

The channel is Fox Classics.
Watched Moonraker today, probably one of the more ridiculous Bond films.
Also saw The Adjustment Bureau last night, it was alright. Ending was shit-house though.

I felt like there was no way to give that movie a satisfactory ending.

They had some cool hats. They should have had an ending involving the hats.

Jessemon mentioned the acting, and that's really the only distinguished thing the film has to offer. The rest of it is exactly what it looks like: negative people doing ugly things, BASED ON NOVEL BY SINCLAIR, oscar bait spiel, generic period drama, etc. Day-Lewis was fantastic, but apart from the film using him as a vehicle of villainy and badassitude, I couldn't understand what the fuss was about either. Although the cinematography was pretty good too, IIRC.

It didn't make a very good date movie, I remember that much.

^Love Exposure wasn't playing in the theatre at the time.

Though I'm sure both of us would have found a lot more enjoyment in watching 3DPD school girls rather than Daniel scowling around the screen, busting skulls, covered in oil, screaming about his blind kid for a few hours while the film tried to hammer into our brains how dark and grim and depressing everything was. Maybe I'll watch LE tonight.

Although, TWBB did have milkshakes...

They more than make up for lack of milkshakes

Damn, LE as a date movie is awesome idea...seriously

'k it might be a bit long but whatever....

Watch this

It's more than enough.

Surprised you haven't heard of it, considering how it has been something of a obsession among many members here since last year...

Probably because I mostly ignore the film subforum. I wouldn't even be on this thread except the OP sent me a PM asking me to participate in this 'experiment'.

edit: Hmm... looks like a distinctly Japanese 'Clockwork Orange' kind of film. Interesting.

So this is what the Folder 5 girl Hikari Mitsushima has been doing since the group disbanded :w00t:

The style and presentation looks like it's based on a manga, but is really not. And more amazingly it was based on a true story of a friend of the director some 20 years ago (of course exaggerated and dramatized a lot -- who could do that kind of photo snapping ?? )
I never thought I would come back to Evangelion after EoE,

Sion Sono is such a troll. The "based on a true story" bit is almost a lie. The real story only inspired Sono to write and direct this film, but apparently the film's story has almost nothing in common with the source of inspiration.

Mitsushima is awesome in Love Exposure. She has become a familiar face in new artsy films from Japan. Along with LE she has been in Kakera and Sawako Decides as well.

Symbv, you really should watch this film. Everyone who has seen it has fallen in love with its absurdity. Most of us filmfags here on EGF have seen it and praised it. It's quite unlike anything else I've seen. It's one of the very best films from the past 10 years and also belongs to my all-time favorites.

Understandable...

I'd say the first hour and half or so is some of the funniest filmmaking I've ever seen and absolutely ludicruous. Somehow they still manage to weave in emotionally nyanced, heartfelt story too and towards the end shit gets seriously mindfucky and dark too... Great stuff, one of my favourite films from last decade.

This interview gives pretty good basic picture of it :)

Most of the discussion is in this thread' previous iterations but some impressions by forum members here:

http://forum.evageeks.org/viewtopic.php?t=8908

As far as I know everyone here who has seen it has liked it :)

Yeah! She performed really well, albeit apparently Sono harassed her all the time on set

First hour or so is basically Ravel's Bolero + pantyshot-fu
