Gonna start the new Swamp Thing series as soon as I re watch the old 80s movie adaption. (and maybe it's sequel)

I started 24 S5 a few months ago but fell off it. Hope to finish it before the end of the year. Not a fan of the subplot with Logan's wife.

Over the course of the year me and my mom have been watching random episodes/arcs of The West Wing which she loves.

^_^

I watched most of the first 2 seasons last year, I need to resume it.

I finally caught up on the magicians! I marathoned the last 2 seasons just in time for the season 5 premier. I wish I would've read the books before to prepare me, I wasn't expecting a lot of things to play out the way they did. If anyone has just started watching, season 3's episode a life in the day is a masterpiece on par (in my opinion) with some of my favorite Dr. Who episodes.
It's Ok if you hate me, I hate me too.

The books are very different from the series. The plot points from the first two novels are roughly similar to seasons 1-3, divrging harder as each season goes until they're effectively unrelated.

Frankly, I consider the show a much better excecution of the basic concept than the books. The books are... mopey, for lack of a better word, and the ending that Grossman wrote tries too hard to be literary, as opposed to the Season 4 finale, which was really earned by the cast and scripts. The show also has some amazing moments that flow from a visual medium as opposed to prose.

I watched all of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts' first season in a single sitting yesterday. I'd never heard if it before and it looked like a fun way to kill a few hours. Wasn't disappointed! If you've seen the new She-Ra, you have some idea of what to expect in terms of look and tone. I'd also describe the feel very crudely as "what if Adventure Time and Avatar: TLA had a baby". Looking forward to seeing the story continue!

I’m surprised that there’s no talk of *She-Ra and the Princesses of Power* here.

I've heard..... very differing opinions about this show, all the way from "yeah it's pretty good and has some great character arcs" to "forced garbage, don't waste your time with it". I'll probably give it a shot eventually, but there's a whole laundry list of things I'm more interested in before it

It’s a magnificent epic and 90% of the complaints are about it being an actual show and not softcore porn aimed at adult men.

The complaints I heard were quite the opposite; that it spends too much time shipping its characters and forgets to form a compelling plot over that

^ Not particularly surprised. "Complaining about shows you don't watch" is a trope on the tvtropes website for a reason.

Wasn't She-Ra originally associated with He-Man, or is there no connection here?

In the 80's version, she was his sister and she was co-created with Larry DiTillioJ and Michael Straczynski the guy who went on to do Babylon 5. His thoughts on her old look are listed here and how fanboys were getting it wrong back in the day and assuming she was an ideal woman and a sex object when he didn't write her that way.

https://twitter.com/straczynski/status/ ... 0158607360

I have not seen the new show so I can't comment though I have seen some clips and did kind of like that they made her kind of goof and someone who makes mistakes as it t levels the character in a way that gives her balance and flaws, and it reminds me of Korra and how she was an amazing fighter but had trouble mastering certain elements and really wasn't very good in the early seasons with personal relationships.

When people criticize the old She-Ra they’re not talking about the writing so much as all of the female characters being designed around having interchangeable, statuesque bodies with impossibly thin waists and huge breasts.

It doesn’t really matter that he didn’t write her that way, as the show was a commercial for toys. It’s not like it was a creator-driven effort, it was an advertisement that was spun off from an existing brand that was starting to see a decline in sales in a very crowded market.

The new show was written to sell toys and is a creator driven effort with a plan and vision behind it. It is very silly but focuses on some very adult themes, particularly the last season where there’s a couple scenes that are as shocking as the “death” of Batgirl in the *Batman: the Animated Series episode “Over the Edge”.

It’s going to come off a little hokey at times since it’s legitimately a kids show and not an 80s revival for nostalgic adults, but overall it’s fantastic and builds up to a really satisfying conclusion even if it does feel like it needs a few more episodes in the last season to let a few things breathe.

It’s also a major milestone in LGBT representation, especially in kids shows.

I did hear but I need to confirm this, that the toy company is the reasons for the bardie doll look in the 80's series as the writers didn't want this look but their hands were forced as they believed she would not shift stock.

I do respect it for making the LGBT steps Korra couldn't though and I like that it basically says that homophobia is not a thing it doesn't exist making it a truly AU world as that was really bold and instead helps the focus be more about the conflicting sides and views, not oh your into women now how is sociality going to look at me.

As Korra made this mistake with its sequel comic Turf wars and it really ruined it going forward as it states the fire nation hated LGBT people and banned gay marriage which means if Korra/Asami visit the fire nation there is a real threat that they will get violence or homophobia towards them going forward like I get that this was a reflection of our world but I felt it would have been so much stronger without it.

I saw the first few episodes of Netflix She Ra and liked what I saw. But for whatever reason, I have this strange aversion to streaming. Like, I don't want to get attached to something I can't get on DVD or Blu-ray, you know? I could fall in love with something, and then, for whatever reason, the show could mysteriously disappear from the streaming service's servers.

She Ra recently got a DVD box set, so I might restart it from the beginning and see how it goes.

I will say, though, I do really appreciate the 80's She Ra, despite of (or maybe because of?) its obvious flaws. There's a charm to its cheap production methods that I can't seem to get enough of.

Also, if people were surprised by any gay stuff happening in the new She Ra, they obviously weren't paying attention to the 80's show. Sure, it's clearly not as overt in the older show, but even in the 80's you can't look at Bow and think "Yeah, he's definitely straight." That man is at least pitching for both teams.

I’ve been watching NGE on Netflix along with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures and Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans.

I won’t talk about NGE as I am already done with that. JoJo is among my favorites, I like part 3 out of the others. The fight between Jotaro and DIO is just epic, and memes are enjoyable too.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen Gundam: IBO on Toonami, do it was to see it Netflix again.

So I finally got myself completely caught up with all the episodes of season 1 of Fast & Furious: Spy Racers. Can you believe that as hard as I tried to fight it given how shaky the first few episodes were in terms of getting to the big bad, the final 2 episodes were the life savers of the bunch especially with the street fights both inside cars as well as fisticuffs were given time to shine. Shiny pun intended since Las Vegas, the final destination, was glittery when it came to visually bringing the concept of the CGI to life. I look forward to future seasons of this toon that undoubtedly squashes even the fakest of live action entries of which their stunts don't really gel with the real world physics.

I started rewatching Fargo and that's a masterpiece. All seasons finished and man, that's a show. Each season is better and more of a masterpiece. Noah Hawley is one of a kind.

Tonight, I saw the premiere episode of Big Hero 6 The Series season 3. Kudos to Jenifer Lewis adopting the Mama Odie style of accent when it came to voicing park employee Sara. Also, I believe if more episodes are Fred-centered, this experience will be a wacky, loveable one.

For the last few months I've been slowly working my way through The Sopranos and it's been really fantastic. I've got something like 15 episodes left and I don't want it to end!

User gatotsu911 wrote on here a few years back about how the show was a Western equivalent to Neon Genesis Evangelion, and he was really spot on. Without trying to give any spoilers away, The Sopranos deconstructs the mafia genre in a similar way to how our favorite anime deconstructs the mecha genre, examining a collection of characters with their own flaws and varying degrees of mental disorders and how they deal with the immense responsibilities of their personal and professional lives. Like with Eva, there aren't any characters that are wasted and they say and do things that real people say and do. They're people who do bad things, but you can empathize with them and understand why they do these things. The show also gives us many glimpses into our main character's head, and the series' protagonist, Tony Soprano, invites as much adoration and disdain as Shinji Ikari(and they both have seriously strained relationships with their parents). And like NGE, the show is just fun and interesting to watch without needing to pick apart all of its allusions and themes.
I used to work in a factory and I was really happy because I could daydream all day -- I.C.
And thanks to EVA, I've started like myself and that has made me very happy. Mr. Anno, please keep working on EVA a lot more.
and thank you so much for everything!!

I am currently 7th re watch of Community, I discovered it when covid first hit and haven't been able to stop watching it.

I've never been able to do this with a show, not even Buffy.

I love everything about it, like I actually enjoy every cast member and it really affected me when one of them would leave.

What's funny though is that like Buffy, and the Good Place, the first 3 seasons are best.
