What's the Worst Movie You've Ever Seen?
Moderators: Rebuild/OT Moderators, Board Staff
^ Actually, The Illusionist was the last movie we saw at the festival - on a different day. We watched Scott Pilgrim on the evening after we had seen Matsumoto's Symbol and Sono's Love Exposure in a row.
I wasn't particularly negative about Pilgrim, but I had my doubts about it. If Bong's Mother hadn't been cancelled we wouldn't have even seen Pilgrim (and Kitano's Outrage was already sold out).

"No you wouldn't. Oz's secret is he goes without food to buy that stuff. He hasn't eaten in years." - Brikhaus
"Often I get the feeling that deep down, your little girl is struggling with your embrace of filmfaggotry and your loldeep fixations, and the conflict that arises from such a contradiction is embodied pretty well in Kureha's character. But obviously it's not any sort of internal conflict that makes the analogy work. It's the pigtails." - Merridian
"Oh, Oz, I fear I'm losing my filmfag to the depths of Japanese pop. If only there were more films with Japanese girls in glow-in-the-dark costumes you'd be the David Bordwell of that genre." - Jimbo
"Oz, I think we need to stage an intervention and force you to watch some movies that aren't made in Japan." - Trajan

I know Merri is a moe freak--even though he keeps the extent of his delirium mostly behind closed doors-- EvaFan still watches Pokemon, and the stuff Freaky says about Rebuild can stretch credibility at times, but aside from those quirks, they seem pretty down to earth. You could also make a case for Jimbo. but he's a full blown cinema slut who spreads his legs for every country's filmic output. Oh, I almost forgot about dear Ranny-poo. Well. I'm pretty sure he's just a manufactured persona, so let's not count him.
This is the greatest paragraph ever written.

Bumped because I have an actual solid list now. Why? For TDSA is more constant than the northern star. Yeah, I referenced Julius Caeser. Believe it!
0/10:
Derailed
Tentorera
Day of The Dead 2: Contagium
The Rig
Razorteeth
Centipede!
The Cosmic Monsters
The Birds
East of Eden
Star Wars Holiday Special
Alien vs. Hunter
1/10:
New Nightmare
Dinocroc vs. Supergator
Spider-Man 1 and 2
War of The Worlds 58, 05 Asylum, and 05 Warner Brothers
C.H.U.D
Kingdom of The Spiders
Dogora
I Walked With a Zombie 43
Congo
The Bone Snatcher
Species: The Awakening
The Host
Unwatchable:
Saving Private Ryan
Dead Poet Society
The Count of De Monte Crysto
The Illusionist
Shawshank Redepmtion
Automatons (the only movie that actually hurts to watch)
Can't remember enough 2/10s outside of the 2003 version of Parasite and Creepshow to make a full list, at least not for now anyways.

Before I give my top list, I have to give a set of qualifiers.
First, just because of the multitude of awful, meaningless shit that makes it straight to video (or worse, the scifi channel), I only count movies that have had a widespread theatrical release. I do this for simple reason of common frame of reference.
Second, I use the old five star rating system for movies, with one star given to each directing, acting, writing, cinematography and flow that wasn't fucked up. To qualify for this "worst of the worst" list, these are movies that I really have to work to justify giving one star to. This did not mean that I didn't enjoy the movie, it just means that I acknowledge that it was awful.
Now, in no particular order, here is the ten worst of the worst.
Valhalla Rising (this one is easily the worst of the absolute worst)
Star Trek: Nemesis
Dante's Peak
Alien vs Predator
Wing Commander
Warlock 2
Spawn
Ghost Rider
Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift (the name of this one should give it away. It sounds like a fucking video game title)
Matrix Revolutions
As a bonus, here is a list of five honorable mentions. These movies I could more easily justify one star for.
Suckerpunch
Death Race
Terminator 3
Freddy vs Jason
Alien: Resurrection

^ Then it doesn't belong to this thread since we are supposed to post the worst films we have seen in this thread.
I have seen the film myself on the big screen with a mixed crowd of laconic Finns and enthusiastic Indians and it was a blast despite being executed in such a ridiculous and bloated way.

Just saw this, it's pretty safe to say it's the worst movie I've ever seen.

In all seriousness, I really wish TDSA were here to explain this in further detail. The implication here that SPR and Shawshank are apparently more abhorrent then the Star Wars Holiday Special is hysterical. I mean, it's fine if you can say that you don't wanna watch a movie because the subject matter just isn't your thing, but jesus, at least recognize the amount of effort and artistic flair that went into those two films.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

You see that, iI think, was part of what was so off-the-wall, yet charming about TDSA. His opinions on "good" and "bad" movies sometimes went so far against the generally accepted norm into WTF territory that they became something of a joke, even though (apparently) he was totally serious about all of them.
Still, I keep wondering to this day if he was pulling an Andy Kaufman. But once you get used to his really unusual opinions, you learn to just lighten up and enjoy them.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation has become the 3rd movie i walked out on, ever. The first two were live-action Inspector Gadget and Sucker Punch.
