The bit in Tron Legacy where Sam Flynn and co reach the portal to get back to the real world reminded me of EoE: Flynn absorbs Clu (ala the creation of GNR) and then everyone gets (digitally) tanged. Did anyone else notice this?

Yeah but didn't that kill Flynn? Whereas Rei was Lilith, not a virtual copy.

@everyone: yeah there are heaps of differences (I'm not implying it's a copy or anything). But somehow it reminded me of EoE anyway, was just wondering if it reminded anyone else.

Rei and Lilith merged and grew into a monstrosity. Flynn absorbed Clu then self destructed (highly suggested that Flynn's spirit survived, but that's for another thread). Plus, Flynn created Clu whereas Rei was born from the remains of Yui. The only real similarity is the absorption itself as the outcomes are totally different.

For the effort, it vaguely reminded me of EoE but I quickly dismissed the thought.

If you want to see things, you will. Doesn't mean they are true, however...

Case in point: I held off from actually reading this thread until I actually saw tron legacy (which happened just few hours ago) but this thread topic made me look for similarities...

And then I couldn't help but see daddy issues -> Flynn = Gendo (tries to make some kind of utopia without caring too much about humanitys current state in the process, although Gendo's goals did not necessarily include anything else but reuniting with Yui), Sam = Shinji (Sam has gripes about daddy leaving him, even if he has spine where Shinji doesn't) , Quorra = Rei (she's something not exactly human, considers Flynn as her highest authority, etc)

... but then I just woke up and ditched all of this. Just too much fanwank to be taken seriously.

I see where your comming from. But the connection is no stronger than the time some hobo came along a sujested that Optimus primes last stand in TRotF was simmiler to Asukas last stand in EoE.
It's just to broad a statment.
