A question.

Consider the following scenario. When SEELE followed the stuff written in the Dead Sea Scrolls, they failed to find a Geofront in Antarctica. They did find a Geofront in Japan, but Lilith wasn't there.

With that said, SEELE is still up to something Instrumentality-related. What could that be? I'm thinking that metaphysical biology is still a thing, but it's purely a theory, with no actual implementation (as far as they know, anyway).

Is this enough for them to figure out how to make an Instrumentality without a Seed of Life? Or should they have an alternate endgame scenario instead?

Nope. There is no endgame without the Seeds -- no Evas, no Angels, no Instrumentality, nada. Just a book and wishful thinking.

Well, I never said the Seeds don't exist at all, do I?

They very much exist, but are not in any location SEELE can get to them. The Evas also exist, but it's a bit wonky to explain.

With the Seeds being inaccessible, cloning them for Eva construction purposes is impossible. However, humans still originate from Lilith, right? Would it be too much of a stretch to assume that whatever genetics are needed to grow a Lilith-type Eva can be whipped up from the human genome? Especially with Angels being so similar in genetic makeup to a human?

If this is the case, however, I still need an excuse as to why these Evas have cores when humans don't. Right now, this is what I came up with: to use a computer analogy, Seeds can send an "admin command" to any life form originating from that Seed, causing that lifeform to grow a core and rapidly mutate into an Angel. The reason why these Evas have cores is because whatever causes the Angel-mutation process was partially activated by the scientists tinkering with the source DNA. As a result, the Evas have cores but no Angelic powers whatsoever.

Does this make sense?

Hell, that actually makes me wonder: where did Unit 01 gets her core from in canon? If she's Lilith's lower half like implied in ep23, does that mean Unit 01 is basically borrowing Lilith's core? But if that's the case, why is Lilith still intact and alive without a core?

Anyway, that's irrelevant to what I'm asking. So, SEELE has "incomplete" Evas and the Spear of Longinus in their possession. They also have actual specimens of a lifeform that achieved Instrumentality without abandoning their physical bodies and are capable of using their connection with their kin to reincarnate into a new body upon death, granting them metaphysical immortality (which, I think, is what SEELE is actually seeking).

Where can they go from here?

Two ideas came to me recently: The first is based on the supposition that Misato informed both Shinji and Asuka of each others past and problems (this would take place before episode 22), but both are unaware that each other knows about them, the consequences that come from it.

The second is a crossover with characters from Archie comics. It seems every franchise likes to crossover with them. There's even one for Predator.

A fic set between 2.0 and 3.0 of the rebuilds where Asuka, while getting one of Mari's patented shoulder massages, sees that Mari has a moleskine notebook and figures that she has been keeping a diary.

Intrigued, she later clandestinely investigates the tome and finds that the "diary" is not actually a journal but instead is full of LAS fiction Mari has authored (both stories and absurdly lewd sketches), with the first entries being comically bad but getting progressively better. The whole thing is played for laughs.

Not sure what sort of confrontation between Four Eyes and the Princess it ought to end with, or whether Asuka should just put the book down, go take a cold shower and try to forget the whole episode.

A fic where the setting is switched from Japan to the US. The Geofront/Black Moon is situated under Washington-3 or something. Shinji becomes the transfer student/pilot and Asuka is the daughter of Commander Langley. The cast would be essentially the same, except American versions of themselves (e.g. Toji becomes Tony, Rei becomes Rhea, etc.) or maybe some remain the same and some don't.

As one would expect, cold war with Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere against the Großgermanisches Reich, its satellites (viz. the rest of Europe), and what's left of the European colonial possessions (the Japanese got India). America is nominally neutral but pretty much openly allied with Germany.

The Germans are ahead of the Japanese in almost all technology and industry. Except, of course, for the fact that the Japanese are publicly allied with [s]Lilith[/s] Izanami and have Evas. Also they've made teh Rei. Obviously this is all the best thing ever for the Japanationalist ideology. This has of course been assisted by the Ikari, who obviously didn't need to keep on pretending to be going along with Seele's plan anymore.

As for Seele, their field of influence is of course now limited to America, and they're hardly running the place- they fell out of favor after the war was lost, and America has been under intense diplomatic pressure from Germany against them. Has been.

You see, Germany like America are obviously terrified of Japan and lack any coherent strategy against the biological godly war machines THEIR LITERAL GODDESS has given them. The occult wing of the SS or whatever is just shuddering screaming about YELLOW LIES and how ONE OF THESE DAYS WE'LL FIND THE TRUE ARYAN ANCESTOR AT THE NORTH POLE and so obviously they're completely counter-productive. So Germany and America have had to beg Seele to tell them what to do. Obviously it's only an alliance of convenience and both fully suspect the other.

So, under Seele's direction, [s]Adam[/s] Mannus has been awakened (less damagingly than in canon, Seele has nothing to gain from destroying the southern hemisphere and flooding half the north) and... the story happens.

I was thinking it would be interesting to see how Shinji would respond to such a stark change in context. It would be like how Gendo suddenly summons and makes him pilot the Eva, except now he's also on the other side of the planet surrounded by strangers that are very different from himself. Gendo might assign Misato as his guardian and the writer could keep Rei and just have here sent over there as well. And instead of creating American analogs for the cast, one could just create OCs and design them in accordance to the narrative. There's a lot of freedom when it comes to an AU fic like this one. Of course, this means the work load would be heavy since the writer would have to come up with a lot of stuff on their own. It's just an idea, so no need to get worried about this actually getting written. I'm far too lazy and lack the writing skills to undertake the task.
