I don't read a lot of manga in general. In fact, I probably have ever really followed...two series in total. But still, I up and decided to read UQ Holder by Ken Akamatsu because of what little good will I had toward Negima before the man jumped the shark and torched the series at the speed of suck. Still, I thought about seeing how it goes.
Its not good. Its literally the worst vices of a bad Naruto fan-fiction chucked in Negima's setting with a Space Whale Aesop plot and the most boring group of characters to have been spawned in recent memory. The protagonist is a bad Naru-Stu expy who encompasses all of the horrible vices that plague the genre in one moronic/Messianic arch-type and the story only bends itself backwards four times to give him powerups without ever working for them, the lead "female" (whose not actually a girl, but the series seems hell bent on hammering someone who used to identify as male into, well, a girl) may as well be called Yamcha, and it continues to kick the corpse of the previous series while also trying to use it as a lure to find an audience.
...Ah well. Fool me once and so on and so forth.

Volume 12 of Knights of Sidonia is perfection. A fantastic space naval battle, plenty of garde sorties, one moment of genuine existential horror (quite a clever reveal that gave me goosebumps in-fact) and the popularity contest aboard the Mizuki had me in stitches - I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. Now just two very long months to wait 'til tank number 13.

Stopped keeping up with Bleach when the Lost Agent Arc ended. Since then I was waiting for the anime to return, but seeing as it probably wont (or not anytime soon anyway), I went and caught up on all of the manga that I missed in the last few years. That's over 120 chapters of Bleach in just 1 weekend!
What can I say, it's not bad, but I feel like Kubo has a too many loose ends/foreshadowing plot elements/and sub-plots that he still needs to address. I remember reading this interview and this one from a few years back about this arc -- and it seems barely 50% of what he mentioned has actually happened as of yet. I really hope he keeps going for another 2 years at the very minimum to address everything. I'm a little worried he's rushing it for some reason since many big fights get the off-panel treatment.

So got caught up on AoT:
SPOILER: Show
Mikasa apparently has a double dose of specialness: she's Asian and an Ackerman. Sigh. I just see so much lose potential with Mikasa. It's rather sad when she's at her most entertaining when she's being parodied though.
Kenny is rapidly becoming one of my favorite characters. It's both a good and a bad thing that I find the antagonists more interesting than the protagonists. Wonder what his Titan-form looks like.
I really hope Isayama doesn't kill off Hange. She's one of the few protagonists that I unabashedly like and I feel she still has so much to offer to the story. If you have to kill off a character, kill off Sasha. She was good for one meme. but now it's played out and she doesn't really add anything to the story anymore. Or Connie. Nobody gives a shit about Connie.
Anyone else find it funny that the Reiss family are all a bunch of midgets? Given how Rod compares to Historia, dude is probably Levi sized. Guess it's a good thing they got their psychic powers, that's about all they've got going for them genetically.
Finally, I find it interesting that Eren seems to have just given up here. Maybe he's finally realized he lives in a Grey and Grey morality setting and is coming to terms with the fact that everybody in this conflict has done morally dubious things.
Still waiting for B.R.A. to show back up again. Feel like it's going to be a long wait, but I'm patient. Someone just needs to do a spinoff featuring the three of them.

I read Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita) Mars Chronicle and it's being serialized in Evening. One of the other manga serialized in Evening is Inu Yashiki, by the mangaka of Gantz. I wouldn't have started it but in the issue the debut chapter of Mars Chronicle, chapter 19 of Inu Yashiki has this naked woman confronting a 7 foot tall yakuza with a katana. So I wanted to find out what was going on and got caught up from there to the latest chapter. Just read from the beginning and get the whole picture.

Toriyama's one-shots. None of them are super amazing, but all of them funny. If you like Toriyama's style, you should read them.
I'm reading Akira too (have watched the film already). If I comment on it it will be later, I have just begun.
Those opening pages in coulor are amazing.

Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

Read several Gantz chapters from the Buddhist temple and Osaka arcs, primarily to see if what I'd read about the sex in this manga was for real. Downloading them all now. ;)

I love me some Gantz. Been following the Dark Horse tanks for the past couple years now. Definitely one of my favourite comics. Only three or four more volumes to go now 'til I'm done.
The Blue Phase - which is encompassed within the section you've just read through - is arguably the best of the whole series.

I'm surprised how much I've taken to the manga. I'd heard about the series before but hadn't really looked into it. First manga I've read that has as much sex and fan service. Kuwabara and his penchant for alien booty is just ridiculous.
I read the last chapter (thanks to the wiki I understand what has largely been going on). Started reading from the beginning and knocked out first 2 volumes last night.

Gantz is pretty good up until the oni arc but after that begins a decline in quality that just keeps going downhill. I think the problem with gantz is the author was good at coming up intitially with a very good creative idea, but he just had no idea how to properly wrap it up. That being said its still ends better then the anime and live action films did but given that those endings were pretty much trainwrecks that's not saying too much.
I just read all of what has been released of one punch man, this is now the newest addition to my top ten favorite manga.

I just started reading Non Non Biyori for reading practice in Japanese because I just can't stand using Anki so monotonously anymore. I'm probably really underqualified but I'd say I'm doing good so far. I even finished one whole panel.

Got impatient and finished reading Stardust Crusaders. I can't wait until the final arc is animated, holy shit. Really lends credence to the whole sono chi no sadame thing. I'm about 30 chapters into part 4 now.

Knights of Sidonia volume 13: Tanikaze, what...
Well, she's no Hoshijiro, but whatever floats your boat, buddy. Also, the end was cool too.
Man, I'm such a sucker for Nihei art. Dude's sense of scale and structure is second to none. Every panel is testament to the fact that he's a trained architect, all the while keeping a cartoony, pop aesthetic to keep things cool and lively. Some people don't like the "regression" from his BIOMEGA style, which is was a lot more detailed, but I think Knights is Nihei at his best.
Excessive Scans SPOILER: Show

I finally decided to finished reading Gunslinger Girl.
I stopped reading Gunslinger Girl at around Vol. 11 a couple of years ago since the ending was announced with the release of Vol. 15. It’s one of those manga where the end is forecasted to be nothing desirable, but you keep reading it anyway because you love the characters, the narrative is powerful, and every panel is one of the more classy, elegant, and graceful images I’ve seen in Japanese media. It’s about this secret agency in Italy that uses little cyborg girls in missions to take out various terrorist factions. With a premise like that, the tone is nothing of what you would think. Rather than just have an excuse for cute, bad-ass loli running around with high-powered guns, kicking ass and taking names, the author art illustrator, Yu Aida, focuses on the emotional hardships experienced by the girls as they realize they’re bodies repaired for only one goal, none of them can remember anything before being in the secret agency, and they have trouble synthesizing their feelings towards their adult handlers, thought of and referred to as “older brothers.” This sin’t portrayed in the “Onii-san is so handsome, I want him to go out with me even though I’m only 12 yaaaaay!” sort of way, but in a more honest and confused sort of way, as though they were struggling with their own existence at the same time as they were figuring out what they felt about their handlers. Like I said, the story, characters, and artwork is amazing, but when the ending was announced the thought of it having an actual ending turned me of from reading it because just about every other volume reminds the reader that the story will probably end tragically.
But I’ve picked it back up again. I really want to see if artist and writer Yu Aida can turn this around into a less dismal ending. But regardless of how it ends, this has been one of the more meaningful reads I’ve had in a Japanese manga in a long while.
