Mari is so irrelevant Anno doesn't give a fuck about her VA's takes. Maaya basically did one and done with Mari. While other characters did multiple takes before Anno was satisfied...says a lot really where he plans to go with her.

To be honest 3.0 felt more like Eva. 2.0 in general just felt like Anno got drunk let Michael Bay direct, and had a 12 year old write the script.

It probably won't happen. The only ship that seems to be sailing at this point is Shinji/Rei, and Anno is doing everything in his power to point out how the pairing is horrible, and you shouldn't be rooting for them to hook up.
