I got that info from the directors mouth. He says it during the DVD commentary. Forget which episode but he does commentary for each ep of FLCL. Bonus: apparently anno voiced the fat cat in FLCL but was not named in the credits. Just because a director does something impulsively doesn't mean th...

About halfway through Mekaku City Actors. Hopefully I'll be finishing it sometime this week. So far, I'm really impressed, but that's me working under the assumption that all the plot ends will be explained by the series end.

(Umineko no Naku Koro Ni is a good show, and the juxtaposition between the gore and the fact that the main plot revolves around a dead guy in a time loop trying to convince a witch that she doesn't exist is often hilarious.) Glad someone else feels this way. Seems to me that most of the...

Same as any other place where people meet I presume: they come for the event, and anything else is a personal matter between people who meet. But going with a prepared plan as suggested strikes me as simply creepy. Planning to take women back to a hotel and feed them alcohol sounds a lot like date-...

I have a friend who goes to cons with his girlfriend a lot (they're both pretty big anime fans and she even does a maid cafe thing as a hobby). This friend tells me that anime cons are a great place to meet women and party. His advice was to rent a hotel (even if the con is local)...

That comic was great.

Kind of wish I hadn't clicked on the source.

yeah, but maybe "pre-modern" instead of "sub-modern." Keep in mind that part of the attraction of EVA is the blending of intellect and man's baser nature. Saying, "shipping these children is brutish and a little sick," might not be entirely wrong, but we see these c...

Got an amazing score at the thrift store. VHS tapes were 25 cents apiece, and I was able to pick up a bunch. Someone must have unloaded their entire anime VHS collection there, as well as a bunch of sweet 80s movies. I only got to look at about a third of the store's selection, so another visit ...

Looks like I'm gonna have to throw my hat in the ring. I'm solidly pro-School Days. Not saying that the writing is outstanding or anything, but it does accomplish something that no other anime really does. To the people critiquing School Days as a weak "deconstruction of the romance gen...

I'd argue that it's pretty essential to End of Evangelion

I guess I take it semi-seriously. My upper lip curls when I hear people argue for Kaworu or Rei being Shinji's prime romantic interest. When people call Shinji a homosexual (as in no interest in women whatsoever), that's when I know their opinion on the show is worthless. It's no...

Love this book (and I took it slow, six months for me to finish), but it really is the breaking wheel of "contemporary" (within the last 30 years) Postmodern fiction.

Oh man, I love DouchebagChocolat's take on the Rebuild series. I don't think you're giving him enough credit; there's a reason why it's not good to pack a bunch of main characters into a relatively short movie series. I'l re-watch DBC's review and come back later with my ...

Finished watching Panty and Stocking. What a great show, another rousing success by Gainax. I love how crass the show was and the English dub was perfect. My only gripe is that the last 2 episodes had too much actual plot.

I'll never understand what motivates people to draw the characters so out-of-context. The porn, I can sort of understand, but waitresses? Asuka in dom gear snapping ass shots of Rei? Why?

Arrested Development has a perfect blend of slapstick and darker comedy. The best part is that the characters are both sympathetic and bad enough for us to say, "they had it coming," when they get in their respective jams.
