Re: Anno: Rebuild as entertainment, mostly not what he wants to do
I think it's an easy line to take out of context when really all he's saying is the obvious: "I can't just selfishly make whatever I want, investors want a return on their investment and have conditions (new Evas and new character), the staff have thier own ideas and input (this is good, this i...

It isn't. There's an old fake ex-employee leak/rant with a name I forgot that suggested it, but it's fake.

Re: Is Mari a clone?
I have no idea where/why de-aging is coming into the discussion. Animation has enough sameface and artstyle-shift to make those kinds of observations outside of very obviously telegraphed redesigns pretty much moot. Mari was young once, and got into university and made friends with Gendo/Yui/Fuyutsu...

Re: More On The Spears...
2本とも形状が変化して そろっている Both spears, their shape changed, and now match (translation mine). This line always bothered me: Kaworu expects one spear of each type, but they are both clearly Longinus (albeit in the "javelin" or "closed" configuration); why does he say that both changed s...

Re: Is Mari a clone?
The only thing that leads me to cloning is the boat naming scheme, which might not relate to cloning at all. Mari very specifically has knowledge, dialogue quirks, appearances, and songs that imply she's older than she appears. If she were a clone she shouldn't be familiar - I know brainwashing and ...

Re: The flaws and/or artistic validity of Shin and NTE as a whole
Interesting that Anno should explicitly deny that sort of connection. Forging deep connections between beats or even individual shots between episodes (NGE) and movies (NTE) is pretty much the core of what so much of this site's geekery is about, and it wouldn't quite feel the same if those connect...

Re: The flaws and/or artistic validity of Shin and NTE as a whole
In 1.0, they added a scene that was not originally in NGE: Gendo and Fuyutsuki talked about Shinji's actions was all follwed to his plan, and then Gendo said that next he wanted to make Shinji and Rei get closer. Then considering that in 2.0, Shinji triggered N3I in order to save Rei I was recently...

Re: Asuka's rejection letter
I interpreted it as a euphemism for "retiring" the failed clones and isn't sent to anyone in particular and is just a memo rather than a letter.

Re: Evangelion manga "day before Q" what can we expect in that manga.
The reason I say the old suit was destroyed is that in Ha, the NERV crew mentions that the 9th Angel is creating a new core for itself inside the Entry Plug. We can see that the blue core stuff in fact covers the plug; Asuka is of course the source. If she becomes an amorphous blob of core, I doubt...

Re: Evangelion manga "day before Q" what can we expect in that manga.
A few points since I've been taking the manga as canon for project reasons: -Asuka's "new" suit in the manga is identical to Mari's: very few suits are outright identical so it had to have been made and provided at a similar time. Asuka's is labelled "02", so the suit was made an...

Re: Source and authenticity of End of Evangelion’s alternative endings
They also mention the MP Eva's devouring Eva-02 being way more rapey and ripping the armour off like they're clothes and exposing an Eva breast (?) and Asuka gripping her chest instead of her gut. But I presume that between that and the hospital scene they felt that cruelly turning EoE into "As...

Re: Questions about 3.0+1.01
For this reason, seeing the dub in Japanese is the same as watching it in dub in another language, the suffixes kun, san, sensei and chan do not reveal anything because the characters who use them fall into the category "but we are speaking about...(name the character)". It's characterisa...

Re: Questions about 3.0+1.01
Fuyutsuki always(/often?) called her Yui-kun. You hear it in workplaces and offices for both genders. It's not exclusively male in the same way that -chan isn't exclusively female. -chan in most cases straddles a line between creepy/infantilising and jokey/endearing. Point is that Fuyutsuki-sensei w...

Re: Questions about 3.0+1.01
Never watch dubs, and get used to Japanese so you can generally notice this sort of thing since characterisation and implied backstory is present. -kun is also a suffix for work colleagues and/or underlings. See also Kaji insisting on calling him Commander Nagisa while Kaworu is extremely familiar w...

Re: Did Anno turn Eva into RahXephon?
I haven't got round to watching 3.0+1.0 yet, but I don’t think I’ve even heard of that one. I think you ought to watch it yourself and not build an interpretation on bad commentary. I've seen enough of that from March-August and when I actually saw it realised that people were idiots. Don't get thi...

Supervised and greenlit by Anno (Chief Director), written by Tsurumaki (actual Director for 1-Shin), drawn by Maeda (Mech Design and Director for Shin) and Matsubara (Animator 1-2 and Character Designer 3-Shin).
It's as relevant as a movie.

Re: Did Evangelion really run out of budget?
Yeah, the story of Eva production is less about budget and more the challenges of auteur driven original IP with a TV schedule. To recycle a few posts of mine from other threads: I don't know when or precisely why Anno made decisions, I can only speculate with what I have and the facts that I can ob...

Long, in-depth posts appear to have a semblance of reasoning only for replies to immediately point out one or two instances of contradiction or outright omission that completely undoes the entire chain of logic. Yesterday I stopped myself from pointing out what I took to be a flaw in this bit of Sz...

Re: Making sense of the impact trigger and the new lore in Rebuild
For the purpose of something else, I wrote down the common elements of every Impact and found that they're kinda simple really. Second Impact: 4-5 Adams generate halos and wings, opening Guf, redding the oceans. Near Third Impact: Halo'd Pseudo-Eva-01 draws Rei's soul from the 10th Angel's core, cre...
