An average viewer or someone who is not used to reading from subtitles would not. They know the subtitles are coming, yet our brains auto lock onto them because that's how we normally read from books or where text is usually found. For myself, on the other hand, I watch animation largely for the visuals, and when I have to read subtitles it's a distraction. I usually will watch the subtitled version the second time through, and if the dub is truly awful then I may skip it, but in general I'd rather just watch the dub....
