Now that Mari's Japanese surname has been revealed, it seems like a pretty clear attempt at similar names. Ayanami, Shikinami, and Makinami all end in nami. Just throwing this out there... Maybe all three combine to create the last Angel/Perfect woman for Shinji, so Instrumentality is permanent...
