Re: Debate the quality of Rebuild here. [2]
To be more specific, it's about how the first Matrix movie sets up threads and themes that it doesn't pay off within that first film. Ahhhh. So you're arguing we should factor in stories that haven't been told yet into our opinions of a published story? Yeah, that makes zero sense. If the next film...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance
There are indeed still people who claim Evangelion is Christian propaganda. Those people are ridiculously wrong, but still. JHWH is generally considered otherworldly in the sense that He is an eternal entity, one without beginning and end, who is considered omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, a...

Re: Debate the quality of Rebuild here. [2]
Let me ask you a question. Which is the better film, the first Matrix movie, or either of the Matrix sequels? (Also, I think you might mean "set-up without payoffs," right?) Let me ask you a better question. This is relevant, how? We're discussing rebuild not the matrix. If you want to us...

Re: Current view of the Rebuild series and last movie expectations
I'm open to the idea of the angels being narrative significant without NGE(I'd appreciate if you could cite links or time stamps for some of the examples you're referencing), however they are narratively significant, then this is rendered moot: Sure they still had questions like "what are the a...

Re: Current view of the Rebuild series and last movie expectations
It doesn't use another's story elements. It uses its own elements. Shinji, Asuka and Rei are their own unique characters in the movies and they are different from their NGE counterparts. It's a different story altogether. They have very similar character designs, and very similar initial motivation...

I think by 3.0 she doesn't feel out of place. Nah. Her conflict, being a junkie, doesn't tie into anyone else's arcs or the overarching narrative, and she doesn't get any sort of focus to justify eating into anyone's screen time. She still seems completely pointless to me. . Her existence is also t...

Re: Debate the quality of Rebuild here. [2]
"Ambiguous storytelling" is code for "payoffs without set up". Failing to set up future payoffs is simply bad writing. End of. It's possible that all of this is gonna culminate in a stunning meta film that established the prioe films's flaws as a meaningful build up, but I'd gues...

Re: Current view of the Rebuild series and last movie expectations
The story of the movies doesn't rely at all on NGE. I've showed the movies to people that never watched NGE and they understand it pretty easily. Sure they still had questions like "what are the angels?" and such, but they weren't relevant to what the movies really are about, and to be fa...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance
Which is about as un-Abrahamic as you can get. Yui's words are clearly meant to show that Heaven isn't a specific place, some promised land you have to give your life just to enter. It's a state of mind, making the most of the world around you and trying to live the best life you can for your own h...

Re: Some interesting details about Asuka
And people said that I was being pessimistic, back in the day ... WTF? LOL. Why would lynchers/rapists be the first ones to find the will to live? Why would Asuka and Shinji just lie their all day long? Why would Asuka, established as a fantasic marshal artist just let ppl fuck with her? So many ra...

Re: Current view of the Rebuild series and last movie expectations
But "improve" implies that the same story is being told. It turns out that it isn't, though I agree that's not really clear until the second film - at which point it becomes obvious. The story is relying heavily on characters and plot points established in the prior story regardless of wh...

Re: Some interesting details about Asuka
^ You can’t be sure that Shinji and Asuka ‘ll still be alive to witness humanity to come back. Sure I can, the climactic choice Shinji makes is between "seeing his friends again" and "avoiding betrayal". Not "living without the rest of humanity" or "everyone dying...

To make them initiate 3I and live for the rest of their days as the last remaining humans, to never get to know about humanity existing again in aeons from evolving out of the primordial state, is the ultimate sacrifice to save what's left in the face of the universe. https://66.media.tumblr.com/tu...

Re: Current view of the Rebuild series and last movie expectations
The first film might seem like that, but if you are paying attention, and know NGE well enough, you will realise that there are significant differences - and these differences enable a difference story to be told later on. . The question though, is how specifically these changes improve the story. ...

Anno says made the decision to add Mari to the story all by himself, wanting to add a new female pilot from the outset because he didn't think he'd be able to change the course of the story otherwise There's also this: https://japanesetranslationblog.wordpress.com/2017/08/14/translation-of-kazuya-t...

Re: An Insider's Look
NGL, having reached the peaks of writing, 7.3 was a bump in your road to g.o.a.tness. Filler isn't intrinsically bad. But as with everything else in a story, filler should be compelling. The reader should be invested. But while it started nicely, you didn't really follow through. There is much good,...

Re: Is there any good NGE fanfic?
I know how that feels. My story, although seemingly an AU and a crossover, is actually 100% canon-compliant in a way that won't be revealed for at least 250,000 words in. In the past two months, the first chapter had 50+ hits per month on FF.net, which dropped into single digits by the third chapte...
