There’s really good foreshadowing of Asuka being a clone in 2.0 that we all missed.

The plasters on her fingers similar to Rei’s

She notices it in the elevator when Rei catches asukas arm when she goes to slap her

Asuka does get Angel-ified enough after her encounter with angel no. 9, so that might have more to do with her not eating than being a clone or anything else. Pretty sure we do see her eat/drink in Ha. Interesting thing I just realized, though-- in Q, we see Mari eating and drinking in her Eva, but...

If you recall one of the animators said there was a small spoiler detail in the earlier films.
