Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation
Are you seriously asking why it is obvious that a German name is likely to be German? No. Remember that my initial question regarding his first name was "what indication is there that it's from German and not English?" No one's provided a reply that answers that question. However, I recen...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation
I'm not trying to discredit anything. I simply need something substantial in order to feel confident in changing the translation. So far, all I've seen is conjecture. I really appreciate the participation and help that have been given to me by you and others, but what makes the conclusion you've arr...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation
Thanks for pointing out that book. How official is it? Is it canonized by Anno? I have to say though, even if it is, a name and a short blurb in a book published 20 years after the anime hardly makes him pretty obviously German. That's something you have to dig for. Otherwise, the name Lorenz is not...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
Can you think of a single example, between NGE and NTE, where a shared key name or term had (A) the Japanese remain the same BUT (B) the official translation or romanization arbitrarily changed? No, but how many shared key terms have the same Japanese AND romanization? (And I'm not a good person to...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation
Lorenz's first name is written in katakana as キール, the pronunciation of which corresponds to the German name "Kiel". The pronunciation (and nautical nomenclature) also corresponds to the English word "keel," so what indication is there that it's from German and not English? Plus...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
The ending 'wa' was in the actual script, though you're right it's omitted in the final. Fortunately it doesn't change the meaning at all. Thanks for confirming that. @HARVEST Thanks for going over some of those differences between the home video and TV releases. I didn't realize the Second Impact ...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation
Actually, the Japanese episodes 25 and 26 had the episode numbers in old Kanji (I think, my knowledge of Japanese is very limited) while 25' and 26' were in Arabic numerals but without the apostrophe in Japanese. If you look at the two EoE titles I've subtitled, the numbers are Arabic numerals with...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
From what I know, the remastered Collection 0:1 had a different front and back cover design more in line with Collections 0:3-8. Specifically, the "Contains Episodes 1 - 4" and DVD logos are on the upper-right corner rather than the bottom, and the NGE logo is on the bottom rather than th...

Re: Accurate End of Evangelion subtitles
I've created a set of subtitles for The End of Evangelion. It's an amalgamation of eight different translation sources, exhibiting what I believe to be the best that each one has to offer. The result is a unique blend that I think is the best translation of the movie. Download Website Discussion As ...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
Thanks a lot for your feedback! I would love it if more people scrutinized my project and/or offered suggestions like you have. However, one change I dislike is calling Kaworu Kaoru, even if Kaworu is his official English name. Plus, this carried over to your EoE subs. Is Kaoru unequivocally incorre...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation
One complaint I do have to make is that when we are shown the title cards for Episode 25' and 26' is that you forgot to add in the apostrophe (') symbol in the end of each number. Which is wrong, since 25 and 26 are the TV ending while 25' and 26' are EoE. Actually, I intentionally omitted the apos...

Sign me up. I haven't read even close to everything on the Wiki, but I have one small correction to make, and you never know when I might notice something else.

Re: How many Evangelion TV Subs are there
I would have thought that somebody would have went over the TV show and actually made a sub file for the Literal translation project or at least went over the show and fixed things up from the ADV release. I went over the show and fixed up the ADV release: https://evangelionsubtitles.wordpress.com/...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Fansub Amalgamation
Happy 20th Anniversary! Twenty years ago on July 19, 1997, The End of Evangelion was released. To commemorate this date (a few hours late), and because I've made some recent translation improvements to the subtitles, I thought now would be an appropriate time for a new release. I've also incorporate...

Re: The End of Evangelion: Every Translation Ever Made
Thanks for pointing those out, Reichu! I'll add them to the list by editing my original post. The most important thing to me is that people have access to the translations in a readable form, one way or the other. And thanks for pointing out Rebirth, I hadn't even considered that! It definitely coun...

The End of Evangelion: Every Translation Ever Made
The purpose of this topic is to form a comprehensive list of every English translation that has ever been made for The End of Evangelion (1997), both official and fan-made alike, and to provide working links that are as close to the source as possible: A2000A See Central Anime (Kansas)—the translati...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
To anyone reading this, don't believe anything sephirotic says about my opinion or what he says I've said. Please, take it from me instead and read what I have already written if you want to know my perspective, because it is very different from what he claims. And don't listen to what he says about...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
So yes, you are right for episode 22. No, I'm not just right about Episode 22, I'm right about ALL of the changes I pointed out! They all exist. Let's not understate this. You made a huge deal of denying the fact that they all exist, which did a good job at making me look like I was full of shit......

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
Bloody Gendo is one of the Renewal changes I noticed years ago, but forgot to mention in my recent list . I consider it an improvement for the most part because he doesn't have nearly enough time to make himself spotless. The problem is that the reflection of Unit 01 in front of him is way too dark....
