Reading this thread has actually kind of gotten me interested in the whole admin and mod thing. While I'm quite aware that at present I'm nowhere near up to snuff, it certainly remains something to aspire to.

Agreed. The "modern" dubs are way better than the old ones, although I really don't know why, since we're not talking about equipment or technical development. Is it because Anime get more and more budget at the moment and is general more popular than back in the 90s ? (Althou...

There will always be a soft spot for the ADV dub in my heart. Most of the acting for the first few episodes is downright awful. But after that, some characters end up really growing into the roles. I think the best example of this is Allison Keith as Misato. At the start, its such a typical anime du...

^ Sephizim, wonderful post! :asuka_thumbsup: Ah, thank you! ^_^ Took me the better part of an evening to get the wording exactly the way I wanted it. I gotta agree with Ursus, though, I think the real argument that's going on here stems from things far outside of the scope of the topic of this ...

It sounds like it comes down to a matter of perception, especially a perception of 3.0. To put it honestly, I think some of us took such different messages away from it because of the mindset of the individual watching it. I think we can all say that 3.0 brought Shinji to the very depths of despair....

Shinji is a 14-year-old boy. Factoring in life expectancy, he has anywhere between 70-80 years left of his life. That is more than enough opportunity for him to make something worthwhile of his life. Especially when, as Bagheera said, he's been manipulated into everything he's done. His acti...

He'd rather try and shove some bullshit baseless idealistic message about how "happiness can be found LITERALLY ANYWHERE as long as you look for it" down our throats than acknowledge that, yes, in some situations you are legitimately fucked and better off offing yourself and being thr...

Gorbatschow sais here, that the tree of life was needed to create an ATF. All I was saying was, that an ATF (independent from Instrumentality) does not need a tree of life. I think what was meant that an Anti-ATF that isn't created by Lilith or Adam requires the ToL. Either that, or the...

Gendo's always been a master at sticking his nose where it doesn't belong. I wouldn't be surprised if he had done some snooping on Seele without them expressly wishing to recruit him. Besides, why would he be working for Seele? IIRC, he didn't even sign on for the HIC until 2004. In...

I thought, the Anti-ATF was created by Lillith and Adam by their symbiosis? As far as I can remember, there also was an Anti-ATF at SI (a weaker one, though) and there was nor Tree of Life. (And no Lillith, by the way. So Adam can create an Anti-ATF alone? Or at least by fusing with a h...

I never watched Gunbuster, was Jung Freud ever convincingly German? Jung Freud's nationality wasn't really brought up at all. If not for her name, you could reasonably assume that she comes from literally anywhere in the Soviet Union. On topic, I think the general point of Asuka is just a g...

Don't know if this really belongs in this thread, but I was just considering something. At least Gendo (and probably several others, like Fuyutsuki and Ritsuko) knew Yui's soul was in Unit-01. And its pretty well-known that the mother-child piloting connection was the best way to pil...

My answer is, I think, going to be pretty standard for your average English-language EVA viewer. I watched the series with the ADV dub first, and knew it wasn't the best, but certainly wasn't the worst, at least as far as the sounds of voices go. I'm still a big fan of the way Tristan Ma...

Incidentally, while we can agree on 2.0 we can't agree here. Proof that Kaworu is a time traveler would be one of the few things that would brighten Rebuild for me because it would give hope that things will be better in the next loop, all while minimizing the value of the Rebuild loop (ie ...

You could say, that I'm hoping for a good ending, instead of a happy ending. Yeah, I've also gotta say that's what I want too. And to be honest, I feel like a purely happy ending might not exactly make for a good ending. That being said, I think the overall message is going to be one of...

I swear, there needs to be a Tokusatsu Sentai series starring Hideaki Anno, Mamoru Oshii Go Nagai, Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hayao Miyazaki as the "Dai-Anime-Ojii-San-Dan", complete with hilariously bad special effects and theatic special powers/weapons for each Ojii-Ranger. Anno could have an...

I feel the need to just add to my previous post that I enjoy all the movies immensely. Picking one over the others was not easy, and I went with 2.0 purely for the fact that neither of the other two achieved such an emotional reaction for me like that ending does. 1.0 was good, but it was a familiar...

I was about to say I'm probably the only one out there who would answer with 2.0, but at now I know that list contains at least me and CJD. While I will freely admit that 1.0 and 3.0 had better music (DEM NADIA REMIXES) and 2.0 isn't by far the best movie (pacing, plot, and some ...
