Re: Forum Wackiness
I just logged in and got a notification dated March 29, 2021 for a post of mine that was quoted...in 2016...and that currently resides in a locked part of the forum. WTF? Some database wackiness?

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now
Let's for a moment suggest this thread is about summer 1996 and later  After War Gundam X (on DVD) eps. 1-5 (aka DVD 1): The art style is very typical of mid-1990s anime (pointy noses, the clothing, the hair styles), no way that it plays only 15 years after a major apocalyptic event (150 wou...

You missed 0083, which is also quite good (OVA better than movie), if rather cynical.

Re: FML general thread [8]
So the Dutch response to COVID-19 has been a messy shambles from the start: first denying the virus would come here despite keeping everything open with no checks whatsoever on incoming international travellers (these still mostly don't exist  ), then being shocked a highly contagious viru...

Re: FML general thread [8]
Dear Python, I appreciate that you improved the documentation of a particular math-related Python core module so it can now at least be read by a mere mortal who does not have a PhD in mathematics. What I appreciate somewhat less is that this rewrite of the documentation follows on a rewrite of the ...

Re: On Miyazaki's remarks about otaku
Is your criticism that Miyazaki isn't actually going for realism in his works, but merely rather what general audiences presume to be realism? More so that the audience has no way of knowing whether Miyazaki's works; or indeed anyone's; are authentically inspired by life experiences or not. 1. His ...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II
Oh yeah, it is extremely pretty, absolutely. and I mean, for the most part, the story is easy enough to follow, the only time it truly lost me was when Annabelle or whatever her name was spontaneously switched sides , but that doesn't really make the rest of it particularily good . The first third ...

Guess who probably has Covid-19 on top of the Bell's Palsy! Oh hell. That's horrible . I hope you haven't gotten the infection, and in the event that you do, may you stay asymptomatic! Well, yeah, unfortunately certain pieces of research suggest up to 25-30% of asymptomatic patients may still end u...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now
Magic Knight Rayearth season 2 further thoughts: It diverges quite a lot from the manga, and IMHO that's good, because that makes it more interesting than the manga. The animation quality is consistently good. Minor nitpick that also applies to other Magical Girl shows (and the Super Robot genre): ...

Informational message for programmers: If you need unique ids for something and those ids need to be robust enough that no mix up can ever happen yet the same data must always result in the same id, don't bloody spin your own pseudo-cryptographic pseudorandom function that has a glaring failure wait...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now
Magic Knight Rayearth season 1 : Pretty much follows the manga in broad strokes, with some minor changes and additional monster fights, although I will have to reread the manga to figure out whether the ending in the manga also had Emeraude turn evil in her own Mashin (my memory of the manga is a b...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II
This just confirms my suspicions that Tomino is a legitimate lunatic. I'm also of the opinion that Turn A isn't any more profound or better structured than other show he's done, it just looks and sounds pretty and people give a pass for some reason. The only difference I can find from other Tomino ...

Sometimes everything post-approx. 1997 (all the wrong choices for the right reasons), sometimes everything post 1989, often many things post 2009. Did University in a direction that I really liked, where if the world did not suck there ought to have been enough jobs by now (considering the whole cli...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now
I never read the manga but I watched the anime version of Magic Knight Rayearth last year because of Super Robot Wars T's release and was very pleasantly surprised by it. It maybe spends a bit too much time in the first season on "adventures of the week" and such but overall I thought it ...

Key, the metal idol is one that I would love having on DVD or Bluray (European region code, of course). Gundam 00 second season : Grinded myself through this in four evenings (1 Bluray per evening). It's considerably less dark than the first season, despite having genocidal mass-slaughter of civilia...
