Re: Apostles?
Yes, we know that Anno was apparently very insistent on "children" despite attempts by Michael House to convince him otherwise.

Re: Value of the various subtitle translations
What? How are the claimed events not censorship?
So non-dubious not a single primary source said anything even remotely hinting at it.
Nonetheless, I hardly find this a dubious claim when such interference had precedent in the case of Toji.

Re: Value of the various subtitle translations
No, it explicitly states they were censored. ...the network staff demanded to see the storyboards for the next two episodes. Since the storyboards they were then shown were the two episodes which ended up in EoE, it’s no surprise that the network execs told Gainax that they were having a bleedin’ bu...

Re: Value of the various subtitle translations
Hmmm I remember there are a lot of sources regarding this and I could never quite be completely sure regarding the production of ep 25 and 26 from a business standpoint. I have never found a single primary source, or someone repeating that they heard from one, saying that they were censored. Regard...

Re: Value of the various subtitle translations
No, I'm fairly positive he was peddling it on the mailing list. Someone respected who lived in Japan and translated stuff did, anyway. And the article on the Netflix translation of Kaworu's lines directly quotes an obviously bullshit explanation of the production of episodes 25 and 26 (it mentions t...

And a great deal of misinformation, if I'm correct in thinking that he was one of the people peddling the "Evangelion was censored" bullshit - lies still repeated in Evageeks articles made this year!

Re: The Curse of Eva - Can It Be Broken?
The curse of Eva is rather blatantly a rehash of the whole Oedipus complex and dependence on the mother stuff, even though the rest of that seems to have been entirely ditched except for Shinji.

Re: The idea of a timeloop
When you're doing the sort of "callbacks" that Rebuild has done, it goes from "hah, neat" to "what are you trying to say?".

Re: The idea of a timeloop
"They're callbacks and references" only goes so far, especially when they're callbacks to the original version of a work.

Re: Adams, Children, and the Nature of the Cycle
Lore is not what people are talking about when they say that the Rebuilds lack depth.

Re: The idea of a timeloop
Further thoughts: The unique spelling of Evangelion is only for the first three Rebuilds' titles , right? So it has to be referring to Evangelion the work, not Evangelion the mecha, as some non-time loop theories suggest. Also, the English titles as seen in the Rebuilds' "commercial breaks"...

Re: The idea of a timeloop
It make no reference at all to the series, which is what you have been trying to link a time loop to. And in any case, there are other explanations which have been proposed and discussed. The spelling revert, the repeat sign, and "+1.0" are all hinting at something , and I can't see what ...

Re: The idea of a timeloop
You say many, yet so far, I only recall the one beginning/ending shot you've referred to. Care to mention all the others, and why a time loop is what they're pointing towards? Kaworu's lines. Those massive chalk outlines. The blood stain on the Moon. Probably more that I'm forgetting. And lest we f...

Re: The idea of a timeloop
I have to keep repeating this same basic point - Watsonian explanations are not Doylist explanations. You have to explain why so many hints that seem to be pointing to a time loop more than anything else were put in if the actual reason was something completely different.

There are narrative explanations, perhaps, but again that doesn't explain why they're there in the first place.

None of the explanations explain why the "evidence" is there though except for a brief line about "homages".

You misunderstand me. In my eyes the Rebuilds involving a time loop would be them going back and tainting the original.

Re: The idea of a timeloop
Probably to quickly get across to the audience that something is very very wrong with this setting if the oceans are red They could have done that in an exact recreation of the original opening. How about because they're different stories ? A fact which is more and more apparent as the films procee...
