That's why Gendo escaped by the small door the second the assault started Fuyutsuki: It seems our defeat is assured, say hi to Yui for me. Gendo? Gendo? Oh that sneaky rat bastard, he fooled me with a cardboard cutout of himself, and bailed right at the begining. Misato kept trying to localize ...

That would work if and only if Gendo was the self insert. But he isn’t. Shin is Anno’s self insert, and well as Anno’s own commentary on what he felt about himself during the 4 years in-between The Secret of Blue Water and Evangelion. Sure, like Anno, Gendo is a director. But that’s merely a title....

In an interveiw with anno, where he said Nerv represents Gainax and Gendo represents society. That doesn't make sense to me. Seele would represent Gainax and Gendo the director,(Director Ikari right). He clearly represented that in EoETV. And if you consider that translated Japanese docu...

I don't have a breakdown of it, but there is the Concurrency script thread that someone else has made (which I only came across after I did my own edit.) In the latter pages, I mention mine. As for EoTV mentioning Instrumentality in a negative light, try Misato being outraged by Ritsuko...

Made NERV into an unwitting meat shield against the JSSDF so he could start his little ritual to end the world on his terms. In Eoe gendo was trying to convince seele to let humanity live, really he wasn't using anybody as a meat shield. I would say that him, Misato, Asuka and Nerv were fightin...

Gendo is a Machiavellian douche that abandoned his son and only reunites with him to use him as a tool towards his own ends. He recognizes his mistakes in EoE, but that doesn't excuse him from abandoning his child, putting said child in danger time after time, sacrificing his top scientific min...

Everything in the show is implicated heavily in Shinji's poor self-image. That's what it is, a critique of Shinji and otaku. The only explanation you get for gendo is that he closed off his heart and isn't even in the show, it's in Eoe. I interpret that scene as Rei I saying "he...

No, Eoe and the show are different. Nothing in the show really paints Gendo in the negative. I never got a 'Gendo such a terrible father' feeling from the show, the feeling I got is why is Shinji such a terrible son, why doesn't he trust and understand his visionary father. He doesn'...

Being frustrated at her own failure and taking it out on Shinji might be better. But bully quicker to say.

Whether or not Misato was offering sex or not is something i'm not sure of, she probably was though. Maybe Anno was stating she wasn't his type(female). I don't think Kaworu is anything other then a plot device meant to contribute and lead Shinji to depressed state, which Gendo&#...

I think Asuka's has a bit of a bully mentality, the way she's frustrated at her own perceived failures and kind of lashes out at the world and Shinji because of that. Until the weight of her failures become to much and she rendered catatonic and written out of the show in a way. Anno could h...

WHat was Misato trying to do? Was she trying to screw Shinji? Was she just trying to give him some motherly comfort? Rabid yaoi fangirls, probably are one of the many things the guy was talking about when the guy says "very very lucky". I doubt Anno is a yaoi fanguy, His preferences really...

If he was so desperate then he wouldn't of pushed Misato away when she tries to comfort and get close to him. He would've soaked her up like a sponge. Using the whole homoerotic Kaworu/Shinji as a way to alienate veiwers (the hetro male ones at least) from Shini, isn't really tha...

If you give Kaworu breast and change his sex, s/he becomes awfully similar to those anime cliche chicks. You Know the ones, the ones that show an unusual and unrealistic interest in the guy characters. And with very little time and effort on the guys part, say "I love you". The only differ...

In the series Asuka's really seems to be part of Annos critique of otakus. The way she runs away from her failures by playing games and all that. In Eoe she really is the one doing the critique of Shinji/otaku. I think Anno wanted to do an up yours to all the people, who complained and wanted a ...

Gendo representing society is absurd. I heard that Gendo was based on some Italian story where a guy whos wife dies, falls in love with some dancer girl who looks like her. I see that in the show when ever Rei has flashes of Gendo fly before her eyes, even whenshe sacrifices for Shinji, the last th...

Tragic Hero' would be a better word perhaps. I think Anno really wants veiwers to relate and route for Gendo, as he does. I can recall nothing that in the show or EoE that points the finger at Gendo and says what you're doing is wrong, something that says he's selfish, or something that ...
