Re: Possibilities and theories for NTE

All I want to see really is closure. Closure for Shinji, the characters he had relationships with, and all the threads and arc that were halted in 3.0 (yes, that does mean Rei, obviously. XD ) At the very least, even though I am seeing similarities in terms of visuals and setpieces in the trailer, t...

Re: Shinji's Actions

Yeah, that's the problem. Anno chose to showcase the consequences in such a huge and globe-changing manner that it is really hard to see it as being something that can be viewed in anything other than the most negative light, which also casts an unfortunate shadow on Shinji and Rei's connection. Tho...

Re: Why is Ayanami Rei a tentative name?

I just really hope Shinji and Rei II get at least closure together, like one last farewell before she disappears to heaven or something. Heck, maybe even have her be the one to tell Rei Q to take care of him and to live for herself and all that jazz. Provided that Anno doesn't let his hatred for her...

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media: 2.22 You Can (Not) Release

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason the last film is so long is because it, like Metal Gear Solid 4, has the dubious honor of having to explain, retcon, and tie up all of the confusion brought about from the previous film. Okay, maybe not everything, but at the very least, the major ques...

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media: 2.22 You Can (Not) Release

Two and a half hours huh? They're really gearing up for this film to be the epic grand finale of the series.

Here's hoping it pulls it off.

Re: Shinji's Actions

Selfishness vs selflessness seems to be, I think, a theme that 3.0 was trying to communicate. And if I'm being perfectly honest here, I don't think that it pulled it off very well, if only because it chose to frame Shinji's actions in the most negative way possible without much room for interpretati...

Re: Shinji's Actions

Of course, things done in the heat of the moment don't add up to such scrutiny and it's unrealistic to assume they should, but I think Anno wants to make a point and I think that saying people should be realistic and not chase after unrealistic desires (which Shinji was essentially doing-despite ca...

Re: Shinji's Actions

You guys really seem set on the idea that Rei couldn't be saved at all and that Shinji should've given up on her when she said so. Maybe, but again, I saw it more as Rei just resigning herself to her fate with no hope of rescue because of her lack of self-worth, and Shinji re-affirming that she does...

Re: Shinji's Actions

With him saving Rei, it wasn't really so much that Rei was gone and couldn't be saved, but rather, based on Rei's words, more that she felt that it was entirely pointless for him to save her. She pretty much said that her life wasn't worth rescuing because if she dies, she'll just be replaced. Shinj...

Re: How Can Shinji Help Wille Without Piloting An Eva?

As i said, he saw the 10th swallow Unit-0 from the knees up, chew it up, and spit out the head. In what reality does that give Shinji any indication that Rei was salvageable in any capacity? He straight up refused to accept the reality of the situation, Rei was dead and stopping the angel was the p...

Re: How Can Shinji Help Wille Without Piloting An Eva?

Well hey, she was one of his closest friends, and he views her as irreplaceable to him, clone or not, so of course he'd be upset upon finding out he didn't even succeed in his goal. I just take an issue with the decision of framing Shinji relationship with Rei as being some sort of psychologically u...

https://i.ibb.co/FX3BWCk/rsz-pp840x830-pad1000x1000f8f8f8.jpg I wonder if you'd be saying the same thing if Asuka was the one chewed up by the 10th and Shinji tried to save her at the cost of everyone else.:mari_nya: I must repeat "yes" as well. Like, that's not a messed up moral, it's ju...

Re: How Can Shinji Help Wille Without Piloting An Eva?

Says the man who justifies banging your mom's clone  There's a difference between that and being punished for daring to want to save a loved one from death, only to then be told that you should've just let her die because you unknowingly killed millions as a result. I wonder if you'd be sayi...

Re: How Can Shinji Help Wille Without Piloting An Eva?

Just saying, it really feels like he is at the very least, saying Shinji should have just killed Zeruel with Rei still inside, regardless of the fact that he had the opportunity to save her. Like, even if you can save someone you care about, the thing you should do is to just let them die, lest you ...

Re: How Can Shinji Help Wille Without Piloting An Eva?

He'll probably pilot again, and this time, he won't bother to help someone if he has a chance to save them. Letting Rei die was clearly the correct choice for him in 2.0 after all, as he should've just killed Zeruel along with her, as then, he wouldn't have caused all this trouble. Him saving her wa...

At this point, the film has quite unfortunately, fallen into, to quote TV Tropes, The Shelf of Movie Languishment.

Re: Shin Eva - New Teaser (01-29-21)

"Everything that has a beginning has an end."

Seriously, I keep harping on this comparison, but this film just screams The Matrix Revolutions based on all the images and lines from the multiple trailers. I just really hope it does a better overall job than that film.

Re: NTE characters and their relationships

On Shikinami and Shinji's relationship, I'm not gonna lie to myself here. I know it's not as explored as the one with Soryu. In fact, that's not even a competition. But, To say that they don't share any type of bond is equal to insanity ! I mean, that was one of the central themes of 2.0! As said p...

Re: NTE characters and their relationships

Misdirection perhaps? They did get scenes together, but nothing on the level of his scenes with say, Rei and Kaworu. Which is why I really, really hope that it doesn't end up as the main one in 3.0 + 1.0, as the Rebuild films have shown very little, if any, of the connection and development from the...

Re: NTE characters and their relationships

Indeed, the Shinji and Asuka connection was one of the main tenants of the original show. While I didn't particularly like it, I could at least accept it, as it was properly built up over the course of the story, and fit in with what it was trying to say and all that. Which is why I really, really h...
