Perhaps there's a qualification, a new form, that we have yet to be introduced to.
2.22 made it clear that Shinji's classmates were simply regular teenagers, i.e. Tohji not being selected.

Re: Is Shinji evil?
I'm sure I'm echoing sentiments already stated, but I've seen Shinji as a creature of impulse driven to protect or act in favor of those who show him love (Rei, Kaworu, Misato) with little (if any) rationale applied to his actions. As stated above, he doesn't consider consequences, nor is he likely ...

Re: Pilot ages
I'd like to see the results of that theory put into practice in Final, perhaps on a headstrong Gendo whose plans don't come exactly to fruition. Granted I feel a rational Gendo wouldn't make such a mistake, but it'd be a decently fitting end considering his manipulations.

Re: Star Wars
I agree that it wasn't necessary, but I don't think it was detrimental either. When he was silent, his decision seemed more resolute and aware. However, with the added line, it seems more like an emotional slip that caused him to save Luke. I think I like the latter interpretation better, because i...

Re: Possibly bad news for Shin?
The biggest issue I had with 2.22 was the character building between the angel attacks that kind of wandered a bit. Fan-servicy as it was, I think 1.11 and 2.22 spent to much time in the world that we're familiar with from NGE and that's a major reason why I loved Q. It jettisoned us into a new worl...

Re: How Hideaki Anno ruined my life.
I meant to elaborate further. The fact that it put Shinji in a place where he wasn't expected to pilot and where he had no encouragement until he met Kaworu is one of 3.0's best strengths. Shinji usually put himself in that place mentally, on his own, but here it was external in addition to internal...

I feel ya there. Eva has hit some chords for me emotionally as well. The direction they took Q is by far and away everything I've wanted from NTE. Still picking apart everything I'm digging about it.

He spends his time watching 80s action flicks and Troma horror with his exposure to anime limited so I just think it's unlike anything he's seen. I'm sure I hyped it up too

I can see Tragedy in it, a smudge of Disembodied in its tone too.

Re: Possibly bad news for Shin?
At this point, three and a half years after Q, I feel like it's more of a drag getting through Eva content because there's nothing left to discuss about it other than Final speculations, which will be irrelevant once the movie finally is out. I've been away from the boards for a minute and have lik...

Re: CGI in the rebuild films.
Sorry for the double post but following my friends viewing of all three Rebuild films he felt, and I quote "emotionally drained."
I'll consider that an Eva success. I don't think he could handle the original anime though.

Aside from the sound quality, which my PS3 nor BD player can resolve, I'm happy with the release, but DVD would've been tight.

Re: Star Wars
Hell with the split engines, what pissed me off was the fact that other fighter designs were nowhere to be found. My favorite design of the OT was the B-Wing, with the A-wing a close second. And now these specialized, next gen fighters have been dumped in favor of an X-Wing retread? I'm fine with u...

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road...A Gob Hobblin's Review
If it weren't for the new Star Wars, Fury Road would be my favorite film of the year.
On many levels, it's way better than TFA, but I'm also just a Star Wars nut (who isn't these days I guess).

I've been tearing through the US version of Shameless, including a re-watch of Weeds and Parks and Rec.
