Re: Lord of the Rings animated movie!
I sort of think that, like it or not, Peter Jackson basically gave us the definitive adaptation of Tolkein's work. By this I mean that his adaptation is so iconic, and has colored so many people's views of the books (something that, say, Bakshi's version didn't do) that any subsequent adaptation of ...

Re: Lord of the Rings animated movie!
Which is, of course, an incorrect use of the word. The bigger question, though is whether it's correct to use it for this movie. On the one hand, it's an American production, but on the other hand the director is Japanese and the animation is being done by a Japanese studio. But regardless of what w...

Re: Lord of the Rings animated movie!
I'm not a big fan of this movement. To me, "anime" will always only refer to works that are 100% Japanese in origin, or are owned by Japanese companies. This has a lot of Japanese involvement, but at the end of the day it's a Warner Bros. movie. It's American.

Re: Lord of the Rings animated movie!
The director is Japanese and the animation is outsourced to a Japanese studio, yes, but it's actually being funded and produced as a Warner Bros. film, and Warner Bros.-- and American company-- ultimately owns the rights to it. This isn't even the first time this has happened with a Lord of the Ring...

Re: Lord of the Rings animated movie!
What I do wonder, though, is why they're insisting on the "anime" label for it, when it is for all intents and purposes an American animated film.

Lord of the Rings animated movie!
I know what you're thinking, but I'm not talking about the Ralph Bakshi one. This movie was just announced today, and it's being produced by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. Kenji Kamiyama is scheduled to direct. That fact raises a number of questions. The big one, of course, regards how they're pr...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread
I'm honestly just as blasé towards Cruella as I am to any other Disney remake. It does look like they're trying to do their own Joker or Harley Quinn , but at the same time. . . it's freaking Disney. Do we really expect them to actually go all-out and embrace the qualities that made those movies int...

Re: Demon Slayer tangent
I'm no fan of Demon Slayer myself, but I'm fascinated by it for a different reason. See, the movie adaptation, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train achieved what many believed to be impossible. With a $19 million opening weekend, it now has the second-largest US opening weekend of any anime film, behind only P...

Bit of trivia: in the book, it wasn't even a T. rex. It was a Tarbosaurus!

Re: Your entertainment wishlist?
This is gonna be super obscure, but. . . I'd like to see a legitimate, sincere film adaptation of John Brosnan's book Carnosaur . For those of you who don't know, Carnosaur was a novel published in 1984. The plot revolved around a journalist investigating a series of mysterious deaths in a small Bri...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2
Sausage Party Law  That's good, I'll have to remember that one Well, the thing about that movie is, it was the highest-grossing R-rated animated movie ever: until the Demon Slayer movie was released. And now you can't talk about the new Eva movie's box office without it being compared to Demo...

Well, now that Final has been out for over a month, do we really need this thread to still be open?

Re: What manga are you reading right now?
So I've been on a bit of a horror manga kick lately, and I read Starving Anonymous by Yuu Kuraishi. The best way I can describe it is as The Promised Neverland meets The Matrix . Basically the story revolves around two teenage boys who are kidnapped and taken to a massive hidden facility where they ...

Re: Official Waiting For Camrip Thread
I'm sort of in two minds about the whole camrip business. On the one hand, I would love to give my money to the good people at Khara and Gainax. On the other hand, I want to see the movie as soon as I can, even though I can't understand a word of spoken Japanese.

Re: Shin Eva leak general
I still think that it's far too early to judge anything. The way people are hyping themselves up for their theories to be true or not is just begging for a rude awakening. Anno absolutely loves his visual storytelling, and hiding the mechanics underneath in it. We have a relatively clear picture of...
