The same side of the moon always faces the Earth, so if it is viewable from our surface once, it should always be. Hopefully this is a continuity error that will be corrected for the film's release.

Has it been confirmed yet whether the moon has blood on it in Rebuild 1.0? Because in the 2.0 preview, as Kaworu's MP-looking Eva-06 descends (clue that it has wings?) the moon is clearly visible in the background with no apparent blood splatter.
