Saw Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Review forthcoming. exploitation films might feature surprisingly strong female leads, but their main aim and purpose has NEVER been female empowerment. I think the biggest problem with this recent debate skirmish between you and Oz is that exploitation and empower...

Well, for now, I got the 18-55mm lens they had with the camera in a bundled package. I have a few hundred left to buy another lens, so I'm going to look around for deals on obviously better lenses. Ah, well, definitely upload some pics when you can. I think I told you this, but lenses are, over...

That is a gorgeous pic, symbv! Is all of 'Nam that beautiful? I had a cousin who visited there once and raved about how beautiful it was everywhere he went. I know the poker player Scotty Nguyen who's from there raves about how amazing it is... as long as you don't have to eat your own b...

And JIMBO. I'm expecting for you to post a thorough detailing of your impressions of the series. Ups down and all. I'm eagerly awaiting that now. I may save this and put it into my review for the film, which I've yet to see, but I've definitely got a lot of things floating through m...

Spent about $1,000 today. Bought the Canon EOS Rebel T2i camera along with a memory card and case. Figured I'd just go the digital route right now. It'd be a lot easier to get my stuff on the web for critiquing. I WILL buy a film camera in the future. Nice buy, man. What lens(...

But to me it seemed like Proyas tried to go beyond that. Some of the drama is a bit maudlin thanks to that. Maybe. I always got the sense Proyas was much more interested in the setting and the aesthetic than the drama. The fact that he's blatantly referencing Fritz Lang is kind of a clue he'...

hopefully, as the cliché goes about what goes around comes around, people will eventually want to hear the kind of sonic gold that is now old school hi-fi fodder Looking at the reviews for the Genesis sets (as well as for the new Rolling Stones remasters; God, they got to them too) and how ...

Because it isn't common. That's what people mean when they use the term here, and it's what it means every time I've encountered it in film criticism. It probably comes from a misunderstanding/misapplication of Derrida's original theory, or maybe people just thought the word see...

Faces, a film by John Cassavetes. What did you think? It's my favorite I've seen of his so far. Really intense stuff, even if certain parts do drag just a bit. Also went to see Jane Eyre with the mother on Mother's Day. As in my attempt to read the novel in high school, I found it insuf...

what actually bothers me more about most music today, it's not just the uninspired, derivative nature of much of it along with the banal evil of "the scene" all, it really is the sound quality All art from all generations has been largely uninspired and derivative. We just forget beca...

I'm always annoyed at the notion that "X is for kids" because the vast majority of art/entertainment for adults is no more sophisticated than the stuff aimed specifically at children. I've said it before, but demographic is no indicator of quality, substance, or intelligence.

Shinji is too broken to simply be a "human being" instead of messed up human being. "Messed up human being" is redundant. I guess people can be messed up to different extents, but I don't know anyone that isn't even a little messed up. Shinji is a guy who destroys a worl...
