Cambridge? As The Young Ones were told on University Challenge, "No, the posh kids win--they always do." I plead not guilty. I was a grammar school oik, a scholarship boy, whose dad used to work in steel mill. Once there, I was horrified to see the cream (i.e. the rich and thick) ...

@RuaDragon Asuka/Touji is (alas) almost canonical - in the alternate live action sequence for EoE , they are sharing a bed in the flat below Misato's. To my mind, though, of the named contemporaries, Kensuke the geek, more thoughtful and intellectual, if never a pilot, seems the closest ...

Then again, you're reading the words of someone who assummed for the first four times throught the show that Asuka had nothing but contempt for Shinji. That was my take too, lacking the DC material. I remember sitting through 26' the first time thinking "They aren't going to break ...

I'm surprised at the coherence of these dreams. I actually had an NGE-ish dream fragment the other night (something sufficiently surprising to actually remember it on waking). In it I knew that it was NGE, and that the Children were about to come under attack from - well a number of red ...

Let's see - assume 2015 characters - Naoko - dead Yui, Kyoko - not my type :) Maya - I'm not her type Class A-2 - waaay underage (and I'd stay well clear of Asuka : for all she needs hugs and cuddles, I wouldn't want the problem of having to keep her hands off my bod :D )...

And did you ever read the fragment of Lewis' 4th Ransom tale, The Dark Tower ? Haven't, but I did hear about some of the controversy surrounding it and Walter Hooper. Is it worth reading? Mainly historical interest - and as a Cambridge man, it was amusing to see anther of the Inklings (...

One of these days I'm going to have to pull all this together into a web page with screenies... The big problem with SxA I see is the tiny overlap between them, in both being pilots. Asuka is a warrior-aristocrat trained from childhood; Shinji a middle-class drifter who was unluckily drafted. Th...

I'd get into why I think Shinji and Asuka are perfect for eachother, but not in this thread. Too off-topic. Oh, the irony - we're off-topic in an off-topic thread by being on-topic! Sachiel - do you want to start a new thread or revive an old one, on one of the on-topic boards, or should I?

Well, given the background level of grumbles that there have been about the original being in Japanese only, the benefit from my PoV would be to avoid the inevitable resurgence of same.

I get caught in a matter of definitions. Adam Warren's Dirty Pair probably doesn't count - but does the Dark Horse flipped version of Appleseed ? Or does it have to wait until the unflipped stuff, the best part of 20 years later, when I was buying it in tankoubon form (albeit translated&...

Even though I am an Asuka fan, I don't "ship" her to anyone; Shinji or otherwise. In my own view of Asuka, I actually think she is one whom only wants solidarity. Sorry to all you Asuka/Shinji or whoever shippers out there, but I just don't understand where you're coming from!...

Is Jahshua [it sounds so much nicer than "Jesus"] altogether absent from Judaism? In that context, Joshua bar Joseph is just this guy, you know... I will defer to the more knowledgeable on the issue of the Rex Futurus of that body of faith. It's Islam that incorporates him as just yet...
