Re: Why was Shinji separated from Unit 01? (Episode 20)
The timing of the events and cinematography, as well as later on by the dialog provided by Ritsuko in a conversation with Misato following Shinji's reconstitution suggests that it was in fact Misato clutching Shinji's plugsuit, grieving over his loss, and pleading for him to come back that prompted ...

Re: Was Anno Inspired By This Real-Life Phenomenon?
Interesting find! I think I've seen this before but had forgotten about it and not really given it much thought. There's a lot having to do with the South Pole that is similar to the Evangelion plot it seems. It's hard telling how much of it Anno was exposed to and used as inspiration for the plot. ...

Re: Eva Anatomy & Physiology: 2018 Edition
Honestly I think Unit-02 having four eyes is a case of the design simply looking cool. If it actually was meant to have any kind of symbolic meaning, I think considering the circumstances surrounding it's introduction and first appearance in the series, the fact that both Shinji and Asuka pilot it t...

Re: Does Asuka see Shinji as her Senpai?
Given Asuka is a Captain, iirc, in the Rebuilds, then it wouldn't make sense for Shinji to be considered her senior/senpai by anybody . Not quite sure how Japanese honorifics work, but if anything, Shinji should probably be referring to her as Shikinami-sama if anything. That's totally ignoring the ...

Re: Post Ep. 21, Misato deliberately avoided facing Shinji and Asuka
I think it's clear pretty early on in the series that Misato doesn't know how to properly deal with people, especially needy vulnerable ones. I mean, there's an entire dialog over the phone between her and Ritsuko all about how she doesn't know how to really approach Shinji. We also see this early o...

Re: Why must Asuka be "the best" pilot?
The lesson Asuka learned was that she couldn't rely on anyone. She couldn't be a dependent child anymore. She couldn't get hurt again. But she couldn't fully exist apart from others. Asuka's paradox is that she wants to NOT need anyone else, but she needs to be noticed, which requires other people....

Re: Post-3I Yui: Monument or Mother? Mk. II [Split]
She could be both really. The ending of EoE doesn't do much to suggest she's going to take on the role of a SoL, but considering she became the Tree of Life for a time and is capable of utilizing the Lance/Spear of Longinus to restore humanity, I don't see why she couldn't act as a SoL if she so des...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance
Well, the story does potray a version of heaven... Before the protagonist rejects it as an escapist illusion I really have to wonder if Instrumentality should really be considered anything like heaven, paradise, or Nirvana. I've noticed a lot of people around here seem to have the opinion that HIP ...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance
I'm a little confused why you first acknowledge that the symbols have their own meaning within NGE, and demonstrate that you're familiar with Kabbalah, only to seemingly dismiss the idea that the ToL is used by NGE in a very specific spiritual context (which doesn't come at the expense of the psych...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance
(The oft-cited Tsurumaki statement is about how NGE isn't making any kind of Christian statement. The borrowed Judeo-Christian elements have plenty of meaning within the work itself.) ^This. The choice being made to use Christian symbolism was because it seemed cool/exotic and could generate intere...

Re: Does Shinji's personality rub off on some people?
I related heavily with Shinji when I first watched the series when I was 14, especially following a concussion that sent me into an intense depressive spiral, where I isolated myself entirely, developed crippling social anxiety, feelings of hatred for everything and self-loathing, as well as losing ...

Re: Eva Anatomy & Physiology: 2018 Edition
I know this is rebuild and not original EoTV, but since we're discussing rebuild sizes too, after a recent rewatch of 3.33, I think the entry plugs are actually the 20m size... at least going off of the Unit-13 insertion sequence. The entry plugs were clearly impossibly large just watching them Here...

Re: Eva Anatomy & Physiology: 2018 Edition
Regardless, I feel the placement is a bit off. When I've got a bit more time I'll have a go at my own placement. It is nit picky, but we're discussing the placement and its relation to the core here, nit picking is kind of the name of the game. Keep in mind I'm not trying to criticize CL's job here,...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?
^ Look, I won't belabour the point any more than I need to, but everyone has agreed Yui was essentially god. If we take that into consideration, than with the power of god, which she has, she could have avoided 3I. You can't have it both ways where she's playing god, but 3I was inevitable, it's eit...

Re: Eva Anatomy & Physiology: 2018 Edition
I think your placement of the entry plug is a bit off. You can see in the gif below that the spinal armor/plug-hole and containment apparatus actually both raises AND rotates just prior to insertion, making the exact placement and angle of the entry plug rather tricky. https://www.vrfocus.com/wp-con...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?
^ I still think the least ego-trip decision that could have been made was to avoid 3I entirely. I would agree if I could see a plausible way of avoiding the initiation of HIP--when you are against the equivalent of the Illuminati, there's little you can effectively do to change the outcome they des...

Re: NGE2: First Ancestral Race and Seeds of Life
Is it possible for other aliens to have existed alongside the FAR, if so, they wouldn’t be made out of LCL, right? What Lavinius said. LCL may have properties intrinsic to its physical structure or some other aspect of its nature that makes it predisposed to its functions concerning life and the so...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?
^ Still, even though her intentions are good, Yui is still paying god by forcing things to go her way. In how you explained it, she thinks her way of doing thinks is best. She literally has control of the EVA, that's been evident since Episode 1. She could have made the difference in avoiding Instr...

Re: Shinji Post-Third Impact
Despite the cast's, and indeed, Shinji's traumas all being specific to them as individuals, their traumas are unique only in the minutia of their particular lives. On a more broad, human scale, they were all more or less just people trying to cope and live with the harsh reality of the human conditi...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?
Yeah, it makes more sense. Still, I find it hard to believe that Yui, generally described as a nice person and a loving mother, let HIP occur... okay, she did so that Shinji could undo it, but it's really a cold reasoning... I honestly think that, given the situation in EOE and what all SEELE has a...
