However, I stand by my initial assertion that "Komm Susser Tod" was a poor choice to use for End of Evangelion. First of all, no matter what anyone says, it's a pop song. It's actually more of an anti-pop song, since it completely talks about the effects of being in clinical depre...

Evangelion is Freud, silly. Jung was the complete opposite, sort of.

But "Evangelion" does seem to draw more parallels to Jung then Freud. Infact, if you read up on what philosophy and themes that are in "Evangelion", Freud becomes the tip of the iceberg.

I connected to all of them on an emotional level, that is damn near impossible to do for me, in almost any other anime that I've seen. But the characters that I related to the most, were Asuka and Shinji. And my personal favorite is Rei. :)

I consider "Evangelion" to be flawless, and one of the finest achievements in both art, and literature. And as my good friend Eva Yojimbo once said, the flaws in "Evangelion" gives it that human feel to it. BUT to me, I think it's flaws, and so-called plot-holes work in it...

It's not a remake, it's a rehash.

And the people who think it's a sequel, are on a lot of drugs. But I like the theory. It can make this franchise feel like a really HUGE franchise. Like "Dragon Ball" huge(lol).

Depending on how Funimation will go about releasing this, I may or may not buy it.

Your loss. Personally, I'm tired of watching the film on my computer. I would like to put it in my X-Box 360, and watch it with real quality.

Once I realized this, I started to see all of the parallels of Evangelion and Christianity. After all, Evangelion does mean gospel. So I fully believe that Evangalion is the telling of the gospel of Christianity. I think this interpretation is false, but it's a common interpretation among a lot...

I don't think that's Rei at all. The color is off. I think your blind. Oh, and Rei is Yui's clone, so... She's not really a clone, but she does have Yui's DNA. She's more like an off-spring of Yui. Which is basically why she's Shinji's sister, with certain mother ele...

Anno never intended on making the EoE movie Actually he did. What you saw in "EoE" is basically what he wanted to do in the last episodes of the series. But because he had no budget, he had to compromise, and out came the series ending. Both endings are incredible, but the series ending w...

Re: Evangelion and Genre

That was a pretty good read, thanks for this.

Your welcome.

And there is another article that explores, and explains certain things about the series that we probably already knew about. But it is also a good read. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2002-06-11

Re: Evangelion and Genre

It uses depression as an allegory for depression? No, during the second half it becomes an allegory for depression, and commentary on the human condition. Which is also apart of the whole deconstructionism of the mecha anime. It's too long to go into. So please go check out this link. http...

Re: Evangelion and Genre

An allegory for what?

An allegory for the downward spiral of a deep depression. Not only does Shinji go through it, but so do the rest of the main characters.

Re: Evangelion and Genre

Anyway in terms of Eva I'd say it doesn't really fit into any of those descriptions (if that is what you're saying) :verysad: It does explore the human condition but in a literal rather than metaphorical way. It's actually more metaphorical. Especially since it treats depres...

Re: Evangelion and Genre

I've been reading a lot about the history of Science Fiction lately and it would seem that Eva doesn't really qualify as part of that catergory despite how it's usually described. There's nothing really speculative about it which is what Science Fiction is primarily meant to do. How...

You're wrong. There is no episode in the TV series that is like E.O.E., that is, where the characters are moved around in a very contrived way. Actually you're wrong. "EoE" is no different from the second half of the series. You were just angry at the fact that none of the charact...

But other than that, I thought it was awesome. I've always been a fan of "unconventional" entertainment and this was sort of the first unconventional anime I had seen. For me, EoE was the perfect icing on the cake Same here. And like you, I'am a pretty big fan of "Twin Peaks....
