^ True. Rei is a special case. And yet, most of the movie is shown from Shinji's perspective. A lot of what happens in the cooking subplot is unknown to him. The irony is that Rei herself doesn't exactly have much screen time in this movie either. It's by Shinji's intervening that Re...

Odd you don't like that, seeing as how NGE explains it away in the exact same fashion. They're both pilots and have to train together, and this is the best method seeing how abrasive Asuka can be toward Shinji. Learn teamwork and the like, which becomes important when the Angel battles get ...

I kind of wish it was in the original series, then maybe people wouldn't get so hung up on the idea of Asuka trying to cook. It's one scene, people! A small scene, certainly not worth all this hand wringing. Uh, except that it segues into Asuka choosing to pilot Unit 03, which is an importa...

The scenario I have in my own mind is a type of Dune-like plot where you have these multiple factions gathered in one place and they're all plotting against one another and all of them have their hands in the same pie. Like the Western branches of Nerv come in and take over command to punish Ner...

Anyway, while 2.0 did feel a bit rushed to me (the whole aquarium sub-plot and the cooking one as well), I see where it's coming from. Plus, again, 2 more movies to explain everything and work the rest of the plot out. The ending of 2.0 was a major cliffhanger. Yeah, it sure was. But wh...

Well, if rumors hold water, there has been tensions. Anno showing up at another studio saying "There isn't anything for me to do." That seems indicative of a few things. And what I want everyone to understand is that if I'm giving 2.0 a score of one to five, I give it a three. It&#...

I kind of liked Elfen Lied too, because of how brazen it is (that didn't stop me from selling it to a friend). But I digress. As for Rebuild feeling dumbed down, I just blame that on the maker's inexperience/inability to cram a 26 episode series into a movie format. Rebuild as just a...

^ You seem agitated, sir. honestly, if Rebuild 2.0 was a true harem (until the juicy stuff came in), it would be a goddamn big budget film adaption of sorts of Angelic Days and SIRP. I'd actually say that's a close assessment. Characters behave in a "close enough" way. Like...

Wow, more posts since I last visited? Neat. *reads* Oh, same exact arguments since summer of 2009, eh? Oh well. Yeah you know, I have to cede that Anno has done something significant here. He has succeeded in making something that sticks with the fan base, for good or for ill. We just can't seem...

Well with the lances it doesn't help speculation that they all transform and shape shift in the series and EoE. Since they can either turn into boomerang swords or straight extendo staffs it's hard to say what they're capable of looking like.

Haven't posted here in a minute. But I went forum diving and found this thread and thought I'd share my own ideas RE: Evas in 3.0. Because that's cool. The following is all just random speculation and personal fiction. Don't treat it any different. Unit 00: Dead. Eaten by the Angel F...

To convert that chance into an actual advantage Asuka would have to be someone who can easily interact with a potential love interest of her own age. Soryu wasn't like that. Shikinami doubly isn't like that. Living with Shinji is not a real plus for her. I don't really know how much tha...

She doesn't have to stick her hand down anyone's pants. She just needs to talk to him, but she doesn't. She didn't in the original TV series either and in that, when she tried to do something it was awkward and turned out completely wrong. Maybe she's afraid of being rejected an...

I still don't get it why it's such a difficult concept to swallow that seeing Rei's dedication to Shinji (she literally puts a lot of sweat and blood into her cooking) made Asuka think that she should quit on the dude for good, even though sleeping next to him was nice and all. ...

Asuka's cooking for Shinji so Shinji wouldn't have to cook lunch anymore as a way to help show a more friendly tone to him. If Asuka was going to buy pizza every time for lunch instead, she'd go broke fast. That was really just a metaphor. Like the conflict as we're to understand it...

This is what the makers of the movie were going for, i guess. Oh please, like that would ever happen. The characters of Evangelion, no matter what iteration we are talking about, never acted like actual, sociable human beings since their portrayals were completely bound up in the plot (such as ...

There's another thing I've noticed about Asuka's arc that makes no sense to me (I know right?). Like ok, the movie paints the scenario of Asuka letting Rei have the dinner party with Shinji is her ceding something to her. The movie makes it seem like she's sacrificing somethi...

Well that was a pretty minor point also. A nit pick really. Rei being transmogrified into Shinji's willing crutch was the bigger slice.

And that's something you see happen without thinking about 3.0 and beyond.

Thing is, if there was an overall plan, I'd have to believe there'd at least be a script for Q by now. Or a draft. Or something. Either there isn't one, or they're changing it. Either way it doesn't seem to me like it's been thought out to conclusion. But on the prospect of b...
