Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

Isn't Space Godzilla universally agreed to be worse then them? I find vs MG & Destroyah to be fantastic. Godzilla vs Mothra is usually listed only second to Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla as the bottom of the barrel of the 90s films. And I never understood the love for Destoroyah . Yeah, people are ...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

Takao Okawara was a pretty mediocre director and he never got a handle on managing his human players. His contributions ( Godzilla vs Mothra , Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II , and Godzilla vs Destoroyah ) are among the weakest of its decade and the franchise. I find the human element in his work sever...

I recently acquired The Art of Shin Godzilla and it's filled with information and neat images. Here's part of the interview with Anno.

Is anyone willing/able to read Japanese? I have an interview from Anno about this film that needs translating.

Re: Ghostbusters (2020)

Leslie Jones isn't happy about her movie getting ignored. But it shouldn't be too surprising. The movie was a toxic flop and the merchandise sold poorly. Even Dan Aykroyd was open about his displeasure with Feig and the final product.

Ghostbusters (2020)

Sony is taking another shot at Ghostbusters. Jason Reitman (the son of Ivan Reitman, director of the original 1984 film) will helm a sequel to the original films which is set to release in 2020. Check out the teaser trailer.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

The Planet Eater dropped on Netflix today. The Planet Eater reminded me a bit of The End of Evangelion as you have an extended sequence dedicated to the inner struggle of the protagonist and Metphies attempting something reminiscent of human instrumentality. I liked the themes it raises and it manag...

Box Office and Attendance

Does anyone know how many tickets these films sold? I'm only able to find the attendance for opening weekends and total grosses ($18.8 million, $43 million, and $66.4 million). I would like to get a better idea about they performed. Gross isn't a very reliable means to compare the success of films r...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

I'm not sure what this says about me as a fan, though I not mind Godzilla's depiction in these movies and I'm okay with being indifferent towards Godzilla if that Godzilla exists in an interesting film. And as a work of serious science-fiction, which is what most recent Godzilla films fall under, Ci...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

I'd completely agree that the first film is disposable and does little more than hurt the trilogy. What value it has could easily be removed and used to supplement its sequel. But the second movie really works for me and I tend to view it as its own thing. The relevant characters are fleshed out, th...

Re: SSSS Gridman - Studio Trigger (2018)

SSSS Gridman was the second best kaiju/tokusatsu feature of the decade. Shin Godzilla in first place of course.

Re: Last Movie You Watched

James Wan's Aquaman. Visually, it's one of the more interesting live-action comic book films as its bright and varied color palette was a nice treat. Highlights include the fight in Italy and the dive into the trench. A nice change of pace from the dull or dark color schemes of the average MCU or DC...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

What's with the negativity towards the anime movies? Yeah, the first one is forgettable. Though it's harmless and nothing worse than what a Godzilla film generally delivers besides a reduced focus on the monsters. City on the Edge of Battle was an immense improvement over the first film and one of m...

Re: Shin Gojira (a.k.a. Godzilla Resurgence)

Having seen it twice and given it a little thought, I consider Shin Godzilla to be my second favorite film in the Godzilla series. It's behind only Ishiro Honda's Gojira (I also have endless affection for Godzilla: King of the Monsters ). Anno truly delivered with his latest picture, outclassing God...

Mr. Plinkett's The Star Wars Awakens Review (That's the actual title, don't shoot the messenger) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miVRaoR_8xQ Don't know how many people care about this. Pretty interesting video, though. As you might expect, it's a bit different from Plinkett's other Star Wars review...

Re: Shin Gojira (a.k.a. Godzilla Resurgence)

I never understood the love for Return of Godzilla or its American edit. Felt like Gojira (1954) with a less interesting human element and most of the tension/emotion excised. Always came across as dull and uninspired to me. Although I'll give it credit for its atmosphere and score. Anyway, other th...

Re: Anno is writing and directing a Godzilla movie

Judging from the provided summary, as far as I can tell, it's nothing to write home about. It's pretty much generic social commentray disguised as a movie, with some "Evangelion creepyness" shoehorned there as if it was necessary. It may be good as a reimagining of original Godzilla, but ...

Re: Anno is writing and directing a Godzilla movie

It appears the rumors were indeed true. 2ch had it right back in Spring. I wonder why Ragone backtracked like that. Shin Gojira was number one at Japanese box office this weekend. And apparently the film has been received well, if a few professional Japanese reviews and audience twitter comments are...
