I don't want Rebuild to look like a Ghibli film, I want it to look like Evangelion (but better). Which to me it does. I didn't mean that Anno personally animated it, no, just that he set the the general animation philosophy that governs Rebuild. I don't know why you compare it t...

It would, but I heard that AKIRA over-blown its budget and took years to make its money back and gain a profit. I could be mistaken though, since I can't seem to get a straight answer from the internet. Though, to be honest, I haven't seen the other works of Matsubara, so I can't commen...

Well, focus shifts aren't a CGI thing in the slightest. AKIRA used those to great extent and to achieve a great effect. A director wanting the viewer to focus on one thing on the screen is natural. I think this is probably due to budget. Most other Japanese animated feature films don't have...

That's a lot of stuff to take in. Thanks for the information, guys. (I wonder if we could even have a separate topic about this...) Out of curiosity, how do the compilers of those videos find out who is responsible for particular bits of animation? My eyebrow went up when I saw a cut in...

I think I mentioned this in the previous Rebuild criticism thread but because Takeshi Honda and Mitsuo Iso had an apparent falling out during the production of Denno Coil (over Iso's perfectionism) it is unlikely that he will work on NME in any capacity. I don't believe I've seen...

Matsubara is probably the character animation director for Rebuild and I don't like the animation character designs, I flipped through his artbook and just think his style is pretty generic-anime looking. @Shogo: I don't really think that replicating Sadamoto's designs is necessarily a good thing (o...

Takashi Honda and Hidenori Matsubara are amazing. Although, I have seen some fan artists that better replicate the "Sadamoto" style. I think Tadashi Hiramatsu, Takeshi Honda, and really a host of Gainax/Khara illustrators/animators are better artists than Sadamoto himself (though I am...

and despite what 3.0 promises to be.

Much like how a number of people's faith in 3.0 is based upon the structure of the TV series, despite what 2.0 was.

Who cares about artistic integrity these days

Oh, come on. The sequel theory came about for a reason. There are TONS of mysterious references to EOE (many of which have been explained, yes), that the creators went out of their way to inject. You can't say that Kaworu's words don't necessarily suggest it. Like everyone's...

I think that them not really being friends is a problem that isn't going to magically be solved in 3.0. Since characters revolve around him after all, but it isn't a bad thing if that goes out the window.. however unlikely a scenario that is.

Trailers for things that don't actually exist yet aren't going to be wholly representative of the final product. It isn't comparable to a normal movie trailer in the slightest. The matrix example doesn't work because those films were shot concurrently, the next episode preview for 3....

It only works if you think that 2.0 represents Asuka's entire character (the funny part about this is that it is probably true!) and being "written off" when we get the near-final cumination of her character in episode 22 it isn't actually any different from Rei's end i...

If Asuka had been introduced in episode 8 and killed off in episode 9, that might make more sense.

"Shikinami" is the same. I don't know whether or not I will bring this out in the main work, [?] but in Rebuild, I altered the settei of the Eva pilots compared to the original. Because of this, Asuka['s name] changed as well, from Soryu to Shikinami. Uh-oh Anno: Yeah. Around the ...

Waking up to being maimed will certainly inspire positive feelings in Asuka, for sure.
