I'm still not fond of Tiffany Grant's Asuka, but she seems to have toned it down a little, at least. She's no Yuko Miyamura, nor is Spencer Megumi Ogata, and it's clear how much less life they breath into their roles than the Japanese cast. However, there is some talent there. J. Mic...

I don't think comparing it to the FLCL dub is fair. That show's style allowed more freedom of performance -- mouths were frequently hidden from the viewer, allowing the VAs to form their own rhythm. The characters were also "bigger", no one really had to worry about subtlety. And ...

There's no comparison. The FLCL dub is amazing. The Evangelion dub doesn't hold up at all. The difference is the really strong voice acting, especially in the case of Barbara Goodson and Kari Wahlgren. Spike Spencer and Tiffany Grant could take acting lessons from them. Fortunately Funimatio...

It wasn't a long enough scene to get a bearing on either character's VA's performance. As much as I enjoy pointing out how terrible Spike Spencer is, I really can't tell from this.

I'm getting the impression that a lot more will be explained in time than in the TV series. And the movies don't feel like you're missing a whole lot of really important information that could help illuminate what's going on in the moment the way the TV series often does. At least, t...

I enjoy Rebuild thus far. It's beautiful and streamlines a lot of overcomplicatated elements from the TV series, removing some of the unnecessarily esoteric elements while still maintaining the same basic themes and characters. However, I do not see it as superior to the TV series. The TV series...

It was obviously her.

She was a fair Martel, I guess, but nothing special. Her screams were way off and she could be wooden at times. But you can tell she was at least trying.

Asuka is a much meatier part.

Essays, no. But something at all would be nice.

The point of referencing the TV series dub was to help express my disappointment in Grant reprising her role for the Rebuild movie, obviously. I wouldn't have brought it up in a discussion about this dub if it weren't relevant. I still think of the Rebuild dub thus far as better than the TV ...

What exactly is your argument, again? Ah, yes, that's likely the problem. In my haste, I'd forgotten what I had posted there and what I had posted here. But to go into greater detail, I find that Spencer and Grant don't have any subtlety in their performances. They're exaggerated. S...

It's rather rude to make demands like this when you still haven't particularly defended your own position. We get that you think it sucks and that you think the acting is bad; what of it? You haven't said anything at all that would change the mind of anyone who didn't already agree ...

Then defend it fully instead of these paltry dismissive excuses for me not to criticize it.

Me watching the Japanese version is not going to make the English dub good.

Except nobody's saying, "I know it's bad, but it's a guilty pleasure." It's being defended as if it was an actual good dub.

No you like signed up on the day I said something against you. It seems really unlikely that the 2.22 casting was the only reason, especially since you just said you signed up to Funi's forum for the exact same reason you signed up here. Too much to call it a coincidence if you ask me. This is ...

I'm only going to comment on this because people have already said what needs to be said about Evangelion's dub and quite frankly I'm humored by you signing up onto this forum because I disputed your opinion. I signed up at Funimation's forums because somebody was attacking my posit...

Eh. It seems to me that the chief problem with the Eva dub is the shit scripting and direction for most of the series. By EoE, Spike is tolerable if nowhere near Ogata, and even Grant sounds less pitiful than usual - and as has been noted the redubbed DC eps are genuinely better than the originals....

Not sure if he's on this site but Penguintruth tends to freak out at any dub ever made. Basically his opinion on the dub is right and yours is wrong no matter how convincing your argument may be. This is inaccurate. I'm fond of several English dubs. Good English dubs. Not Evangelion's t...
