Escaflowne Kickstarter Blu-Ray Extravaganza '016
So Funimation is re-releasing Escaflowne on Blu-Ray - but they're not just re-releasing it on Blu-Ray, they're also doing some Kickstarter thing to gauge interest in a super-deluxe release with a new dub, director and production staff being brought over for a US con, and possibly other special featu...

The best part in 2.22 is when Unit 01 is rejecting the Dummy Plug and we know this because the Dummy Plug is screaming

Not sure how anyone could interpret the song's tone as anything but bitterly ironic

Re: Is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
This argument reminds me of the whole "Did SEELE rape Ritsuko" debate, where the symbolic subtext is there but as a literal event it makes little to no sense in the context of the plot and would frankly be too tritely melodramatic even for Evangelion

Re: Is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
What I'm saying is, that's one possible reading of the scene but not the only one; the scene itself is open to interpretation and should be acknowledged as such.

Re: Come, Sweet Death
I remember reading somewhere, that Anno wrote the lyrics in Japanese and somebody translated them, heavily altered. The Japanese lyrics are a lot more on-the-nose, but the basic idea is still the same. Once upon a time I transcribed them on here from one of the OST companion booklets. Dunno if that...

Re: Do people still hate Evangelion 3.33?
Gonna get to the imagery soon, but while I'm thinking about it here are some things from the original series I still miss in Rebuild : - train scenes (you know, those train scenes) - character moments where ironically apropos radio or TV programming is buzzing in the background - psychosexual fucker...

Re: is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
I would have to echo this sentiment. To me it seems like people are splitting some mighty fine hairs, and that it doesn't really matter if Misato went in there to jump Shinji or not -- what matters is that what she did was inappropriate, or at least was perceived as such by both of them, and that h...

Re: Come, Sweet Death
These days I can't listen to that damn song anymore, though I'm not quite sure if that's because it's such an insidious earworm or because it takes me to a dark place.

Re: is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
If anything, I think it's more that Shinji perceived sexual tension or undertones in that situation while Misato did not (consciously, at least). I rewatched ep. 25 just for this thread (<3) and I think it supports this reading. But again, the ambiguity of the scene is a crucial part of it - it's tr...

Re: Celebrity RIP Thread
I don't want to sound like I'm wishing death on the man but when George R.R. Martin does die, I hope it's in the most random and anticlimactic way possible. Bonus points if he still hasn't finished those damn books.

Re: Do people still hate Evangelion 3.33?
The preview clip at the end of 3.33 looks surprisingly hideous though. This time I hope it really is all lies.
Still want to do that analysis post on 3.33's visuals when I have the time. Would anyone else be interested in making a project out of this?

Re: is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
I mean, you're the one making the jump from "innuendo exists in this scene that is intended to tell us about character psychology" to "in this scene Misato is literally trying to jump on Shinji's boner". There's a difference between an ambiguous suggestion and a concrete statemen...

EoTV recycles a whole lot of dialogue divorced from its original context for effect

Re: is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
Partly, but it seems to me like a lot of people here posit a more concrete meaning to that scene than it was ever intended to have. Was Misato literally planning to bone Shinji, right then and there? It's deliberately very vague, almost subliminal, though stuff like the wiki entry was clearly writte...

Re: is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
Umm.... The scene in Ep. 23 where Misato comes into Shinji's room was there all along; it's not part of the material that was added to the Director's Cuts. Alright sue me guys, I haven't seen the original series (let alone the non-DC episodes) in a very long time Apart from that my points still stand

Re: Last Movie You Watched
Sadamoto didn't work on Boy ? The look is so consistent with Hosoda's previous films that I wouldn't have guessed it. Of course, human characters are in the minority for this one anyway. My experience for my one viewing of Wolf Children (a crowded convention room playing the underwhelming English du...

Re: is there any solid evidence that Misato feels any sexual attraction to Shinji?
When you're a horny, emotionally distressed teenage boy, the answer is: a lot. Also reminder that this scene is followed seconds later by Misato wondering if the fact that she's a woman scares him. Which it does, that's the whole setup for his whirlwind relationship with Kaworu in the next episode a...
