Sexism in NGE?

Split from "Theories You Really Don't Like." I heartily dislike the following three theories, though "theories" might not be the best word for them. One is specific to Neon Genesis Evangelion whilst two are not. 1. NGE is all about, or even mostly about, Ikari Shinji - to th...

Child warriors

I apologize for being Mr. Gloomy, but when I hear/read/see journalistic reports about child warriors in some stupid war I sometimes think of Neon Genesis Evangelion and its 14-year-olds. I saw child warriors, a long time ago; or, rather, I saw what was left of them.

My Boring Story

I'd seen references to Neon Genesis Evangelion on the Web during the 1990s but I hadn't screened any actual episodes, mostly due to the fact I lived at an inconvenient distance from video-rental stores. Circa 2000 C.E. I found myself in proximity to one of those aforementioned shops, so all ...

Yeah....

I was concerned about that continuity of mortality too, Sachi , but a smart guy like Anno can surely come up with a scenario in which the supposedly-dead characters turn out not be "dead" after all. (I know that's a cliché, but in this case I'm all for it.) *runs away and h...

Aha!

Thank you, Mr. Tines ! I shall follow the link you provided and see what happens when I come out on the other side. Maybe, one of these days, Gainax and Anno will see merit in taking fuller advantage of NGE's obvious staying-power popularity by taking us further along the characters' road of...

Chotto matte, BeoX2 ! I come in peace! Your points are well taken, but how about easing up a bit on the delivery? Thank you, The Abhorrent and Ramiel , for understanding the thrust of my questions. I now have the information I was seeking, thanks to your replies. :asuka_happy: =^..^=

Ah, yes....

Thanks for the reference link, Sailor Star Dust ! Yeah, I can see those angel-kill markings in that screen capture. I knew what darthikari was referring to; but I thought I'd try a bit of humor with my "characters have lives of their own outside franchises" remark. *wonders if it worke...

Characters' lack of aging

[Forgive me if these questions have been asked and answered long since. I tried the search function, but couldn't make any headway with it.] Why don't the characters in Neon Genesis Evangelion age? When someone remarks, for example, that Shikinami Asuka Langley is 14 years of age I think &qu...

All three? Wow!

Darthikari , you've got all three of those entry-plug models? Golly! I've had to sell myself into indentured servitude for just the one. But seriously, that's an impressive lineup of entry plugs. As for Asuka 's angel-kill markings, they lend credence to my theory that characters ha...

Thanks for your replies, everybody! Jojojoker , yeah, being in such a confined space would surely take some getting used to - for me, anyway. (Not to mention the fact I'd be too big to fit in a full-sized model!) Also, Blue the cat thanks you for your kind compliment. Killer Bee , I'...

Asuka entry plug figurine-model

There's an "action figure" thread, but since this isn't an "action figure" I figured (sorry) I'd best make a separate thread. Plus, it's actually a figurine-model combination. http://flyvapnet.com/myPictures/ShikinamiAsukaLangley/Figurines/SAL02Plug01B.jpg...

Well....

Generally speaking, I'm positively impressed with the three- part 'JO Anime Mega Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion and I'm equally impressed with this thread. I enjoyed the original NGE series and quite like Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance . But ... I just can't get on...

Oh, right!

Yes, of course! I'll rush right out and do that, Dr. Nick . After all, I have nothing but respect for flamers. Also, I'm so sorry to have posted the wrong point of view here. Had I known you'd resort to flaming I'd surely have made an acceptable albeit disingenuous post in praise of ...

Oy vey!

What is it with this middle-class Victorian attitude toward sensuality and sexuality? It's all the rage at art-related sites, anime/games/manga-related message boards and social-networking sites to hammer away on "fan service" as if it's a bad thing responsible for the deaths of bi...

Machines with faces...?

I don't like "mecha" at all, but I put up with it for the sake of any interesting characters who may appear in the corresponding anime/games/manga. That's why I liked Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann - until, that is, they'd drag out their big war machines...

I can't find a normal plug suit version by Wave, bladerj , so if one exists it's either long sold out or hasn't been released. Apart from this Wave new-suit model and the Revoltech one, I'm aware of two more: Shikinami Asuka Langley Plug Suit Test Type Kotobukiya Ver. (PVC Figure...

F.Y.I.

I appreciate seeing everyone's figurines here. They're not cheap and they can be very addictive! That Fräulein Revoltech Shikinami Asuka Langley Series No. 018 150mm Action Figure from Evangelion: 2.0 figurine, for example, cost 3843 yen - including shipping. But in my opinion it's a fai...
