In the "Beast Mode" scene with Eva-02 and Mari: http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k224/nativsis/PixelatedTimer.png It looks like the technology within the Eva is breaking down, or at least somewhat damaged, as a result. It could be a sign of the whole "giving up its humanity"
