Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media

The animation production process is all a blur to me, and it doesn’t help that Anno likes to tweak things until the very end. I’ve no idea what “stage” of the process they’re in other than “the part where Anno & Co. draws a movie together until they’re done with it.”

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

This is a good thing. WB hasn’t been doing too well competing in the summer screenings of their films. Waiting until fall/winter months is better. For example, this year Star Wars’ competition for ticket sales is Cats.

This is a real thing I’m doing, but I’m blaming the cat if it fails.

You mean that the 1997 movie Mononoke Hime can now be considered “old stuff?”

Re: Anybody else notice the weird sounds in 3.0?

That screech is from Ramiel’s attack sound effects from Eva Jo, which was also reused from a space monster screech in DieBuster.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

I’ve seen the interviews. But I have professionally worked on behind the scenes documentaries and filmmaker interviews for various film projects on various budgets, and, while I haven’t worked with Star Wars or Disney specifically, I can spot out a scripted corporate shill piece when I see it. All o...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

Lemme put it this way: I might respect her more if she were to resign. She’s clearly not in control here, Iger is; and no one but Iger can keep that from happening. Looking at her past filmography, none of her previous films share the same issues that her SW movies do. That’s not to say that her pas...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

If Bob Iger wasn’t telling Kathleen Kennedy to make limp, stealth remakes, he’d simply hire someone else and tell them to do the exact same thing. I don’t see how replacing Kathleen Kennedy would resolve any of the issues with these movies. It’s not like she has these issues with any of the other fi...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

^ Oh, that’s definitely true as well. But I’d be kidding myself if I believed that the decisions that Iger’s been making aren’t also the ones that are negatively affecting the Star Wars movies these days.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

It’s important to note that Kathleen Kennedy is referring to source materials, not just fiction in literary paper formats. In that sense, she’s 100% correct. Star Wars has no source materials outside of the original trilogy. The EU canon isn’t a source material in the slightest. At best the EU is ma...

Re: The Satire of Evangelion

Just so we’re clear on terms, here’s how these words are usually used: Satire - Humorous deconstruction of an idea or property. Parody - Humorous homage of an idea or property, usually done out of love. Roast - Praising an idea, a person, or a property via humorous sarcasm. While there’s humor from ...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

Criterion's Showa-Era Godzilla Box Set (Just the technical review) Pros: All 15 of the original Japanese movies all in one place in HD! Godzilla vs Gigan even features the formally Japanese exclusive on-screen speech bubbles for Godzilla and Anguirus’ “dialogue,” which is important since the movie ...

Re: Will the "good guys" kill Gendo? [split]

Here’s what’ll go down: 1. Gendo pilots Unit 13. 2. Weird and mind-blowingly awesome Eva stuff ensues, and I won’t understand exactly what happens until the second viewing. 3. Gendo dies in Unit 13, probably at the hands of Unit 01’s Yui. His “Death Scene” in EoE is re-enacted. 4. Shinji is given an...

Re: Netflix Release General Discussion

All this really does is simply prove that Evangelion discussions can almost as complex (and as heated) as Biblical theological discussions. The only difference is that the stakes aren’t as high for the Eva fans as they are for theologians.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

I have no emotional response upon viewing this trailer. Well, except for when 3PO seemed like he’s seeing his friends for the last time, during which I felt more cringe. JJ is really stretching this material thin, huh?
