Re: Dealing with being thirty
Is there a topic about the lockdown where I can complain here? We avoid the touchy issues of the day, after the bad experiences some years ago with the experimental and now graveyarded "Serious Discussion" forum. There are enough other places on the 'net for such things, and we already ha...

While we're tidying things up, in preparation for the avalanche of spoiler-worthy material incoming with 3.0 + 1.0, you'll see a new button on the posting page, "hide", which does a simple in-line spoiler.

Re: Official "Hello/Goodbye" Thread!
I'll take a look at Japanese. Maybe a language that doesn't use the latin alphabet will pique my interest It's way more than that, though -- Japanese grammar is almost entirely unlike anything speakers of IndoEuropean languages recognise. Pronouns, inflection for number, the notions of temporal inf...

I'm wondering if it ought not be in "Nostalgia" instead, where the lack of icon would be a non-issue.Berserker#901540 wrote:Since the "Old stickies" is a thing

Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes
Unfortunately our current PhPBB iteration doesn't parse HTML I was tackling the diagnosis from the other end, by tinkering with the front page as rendered, using browser development tools (so all at the HTML level, and my machine only), rather than playing with the actual forum BBCode, trying to se...

Re: Announcement regarding recent forum changes
There's some kind of error or bug in the BBCode parsing of underlined text That one's weird. There's not even any odd CSS rules that could possibly apply -- and live-editing the front page locally to insert the expected mark-up <span style="text-decoration: underline">underlined text</spa...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now
Tezuka's Firebird 2772 is everything Dr. Nick said it was (even if the subtitles I found were too embarrassed to give the Chief of Science's full name), only with way more by way of interludes that wanted to be in Disney's Fantasia when they grew up than I had expected. And less explanation of how B...

b) all given another spin at the Great Wheel on a new world -- free rebirths for everyone
or am I remembering a fix-up from Be Invoked?

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II
I'm honestly baffled at how much hate Tomino is getting here, as if the anti war theme of all the Gundams he made is in any way difficult to understand. The intent is clear enough, because of the great amounts of "tell, not show" typically going on -- it's the execution that people are ar...

Re: What do you think Asuka has a degree IN?
I'm guessing that the Euro forces of NTE seem to be fine with using child prodigies and making them officers/secret agents. If someone is one of the (few, and generally not interchangeable) people who can use an existing and necessary weapon of mass destruction, giving them a brevet rank to place t...

Re: What do you think Asuka has a degree IN?
I don't think it is ever mentioned. It isn't. My guess would be mathematics, as that is the easiest one to power through on raw ability at an early age, and would also tend to pick up things like physics in the background (even if thermal expansion was something we covered when I was about 11-12), ...

Re: Alternative End of Evangelion
I wrote an alternative, happier ending. That was my immediate reaction after first watching EoE, too. It's quite normal to need a fix-fic, after all that. BTW there's no need to go to watermarking register-ware to create PDFs in this day and age, when there are perfectly legitimate solutions to the...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now
G Reco in my opinion isn't bad as much as it is utterly... pointless. So much of it just doesn't go anywhere. I quite agree. It was a "tour of the balloon factories" only with an obligatory robot fight every episode that meant we didn't even get to see much by way of the attractions on th...
